One of our crew will be adopting an element to the Ein Hammer Project: A working conveyor belt that will be moving tools, leiderhosen, strudel, etc. down to the underground workers below to further the suggestion of a subterranean world.

As with Zsu Zsu I will be making many outlandish grammatical errors in an attempt to be humorous. One must write for their audience, which in this case is mostly English-speaking. It is my fondest hope that many a fellow German burner seek me out to inform me that I am doing it wrong. Fundamentally, it is helpful when you tell me just how wrong I am, so I can effectively straddle that comedic line.

my name is Karl von Hesse, a student and research assistant .

I found your group in a google search, relating to a project we are
working on here in Germany, and, am wondering it's acceptance with your
community.

I am hoping some of you will be enthusiastic and willing to participate. If
not, if you could offer opinions and feedback, I would very much
appreciate it.



As follows:



We are a group of university staff and students, working towards sustainable, low voltage passive power generation, and, have developed, hopefully, an idea and process, we have temporarily named
"Hammerschmetzen".

Please forgive me as I am not able to share many of the details of this project as we pursue international patents.

As a result of google searches on variations of our name, I came across your group.

In researching the conditions and location for our first test of a 1/2 scale
generator, we suspect the desert location of your event to be ideal as far as conditions and physical properties.

Add to this the option to help power peoples equipment (we are not yet sure the amount), it seems a symbiotic arrangement is
possible.
We provide power, you allow us the space, and, give us the power draw to test our theory and, applicability as it pertains to our patent process.

I am wondering, does a group need permission for such an experiment, or, allowing that your community has few rules, would be allowable to merely create and conduct this experiment?
If permission is required, who is in charge, please, that I may contact them?

Greetings, Mr. Von Hesse, and welcome to our forum. Please allow me to apologize for some of the German humor that myself and others have placed here. I myself am of German lineage and I can assure you that it is all in good fun.

I must agree with you as to the amazing coincidences that your project has with my own. I suppose it's not the first time a Google search has brought similar names and endeavors together.

I am very intrigued by the technology you are working on, and I respect the need for secrecy. Is there any way you can share a little more with us as to the how it would relate to household power consumption needs that are moved to our desert environment? Do you have a website?

Thank you all for your "greetings"? I'm sorry, I do not always understand American humor, but, will try.

yes, I agree the coincidence, or, may I say "synchronicity" is wonderful, leading me to your group.

I am making this inquiry, in a somewhat secret fashion, unkown to my "mentor".
A brilliant person, but, not always open to new people being involved in our project.

With that in mind, I can only (for now at least), give the barest of descriptions of our project.
We are feverishly perusing international patents and I can not risk compromising information that would allow others to glean knowledge.

I hope you understand.

in short, though:

We take advantage of static charge, as it exists in the atmosphere near ground level, and, the "base" charge of the earth, especially in an alkaline soil type environment. We need dry surface conditions, air movement (varying speeds, so as to test for the ideal), and, a fairly wide temperature range.
We also feel, if the soil below ground level, where our main device is located, can be moist, to saturated, with water, it will operate more efficiently.

In my research, it seems your playa will provide these conditions.
Am I correct?

Adding to that, the possibility to provide power draw, of differing loads, again to search for the ideal, and, it seems a very good site.

I am hoping to get some specific information as to soil type, composition, chemistry, and even mean temperature, as I do further research.
Any help from your group would be much appreciated. Especially "direct knowledge" and experience with that location.

I am gleaning much information from reading the threads and such that exist here. I am so happy for this opportunity.
Am I to understand, nuclear testing took place on your playa?
Also, I read of on persons concerns regarding health issues related to the dust (is it dust or sand)? That seems controversial, since, many seem to dis-agree with the risks.

As to a web site:
For now, no, I can not give access to our information, which only exists on an "intra-net" basis, and, has security measures and access monitors.

I will take this issue to my mentor, if and when, I feel I've found this to be the correct location for our next phase testing.

Please excuse my lengthy replies, I am so intrigued by the possibilities, of not only travel to the U.S., and taking the next step in our project, but, as it seems, a wonderful and entertaining festival.......(that, on a personal note, of course)

Welcome to our community. I am an engineer and have studied geotechnical analysis. I can obtain and conduct tests upon the soil substructure for this site.

You say your main device is located underground. I will warn you now that large excavations at this event have been frowned upon in the past due to the nature of the soil and its tendency to settle. However, if you can prove that you will return the site to its natural state following your testing there could be some leniency.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you and your project. It sounds fascinating!

With the possible exception of your preferred "wet" environment for the underground equipment, we may have a chance to truly collaborate. You bring the potential for electric power for the participants of the event, we'll bring the art that enhances your equipment's appearance, and together, we could accomplish something remarkable. I know you are still in the early stages of consideration, but think of the possibilities should your experiments be successful and of course, photo and video documented. My crew and I have a good reputation for bringing together form and function, something that could serve you well if the media runs with it after your patents are secured and you begin to seek funding for expansion. yes, I have very much enjoyed your website, I do believe, we have more in common than just science, and not merely limited to making sport of the French. (attempt at humor)

When I stated the need for moist to saturated sub-surface alkaline soil conditions, my meaning was not "liquid" as such, but, moisture related to conductivity and contact with, our "structure".

I appreciate the suggestion from Mr. Unjohnharley, referencing pumping water below grade for us, but, I think it unnecessary, in light of the information I've obtained regarding the water table on your playa. Also, drilling would not be needed, since, the sub-surface device is only up to one meter in depth, and, horizontal in orientation. If anything were necessary, it would be to leave a slight depression above the devise and somehow pour water into said "channel", so it would be allowed to percolate down. But again, it seems unnecessary, especially if we can install the large section of the device in advance, allowing the soil time to settle and compact. I'm sure this is an issue to be resolved far in advance, so, we can install our equipment ahead of the construction of infrastructure for your event, on your playa.

I so much appreciate the offers of art to enhance our experiment, and, can easily see how it would not only allow that we are contributing to the overall event, but, if we can power your equipment and lighting, so much the better.

We have discussed the need to document every step of this construction and testing of our scaled device. It is appropriate, and appreciated, that you may offer to assist us in this documentation. Of course, said evidence would be kept private, until our patents are approved. But, at that time, we have verbal commitment from several European media outlets to disperse our information, and, evidence, in either the form of news segments, or, perhaps, a short documentary on our progress, to, what we hope will be, a very helpful solution to power needs, especially in remote locations.

Mr. Zoro Sings:
we would be glad, and honored, to help power your camp, at least to the extent possible.
As we proceed with the testing now underway, we will have a better idea as to total power achievable, with parameters set high and low.
Please know, if I've not stated, that, the power generated will be direct current, and, if alternating current is your requirement, it will have to be rectified to meet your needs. We may or may not have the budget for said equipment, but, will do what we can.

On another note:
I am noticing, in my perusing of your "Eplaya" archives and threads, that, much joy and fun is to be had at your festival. I must say, I am intrigued by what I read and am personally curious how you maintain such safety and pleasant attitudes, without strict rules and enforcement. Perhaps, this is a societal bias, which, I am not familiar with?

Again, I apologize for the length of my replies, I note others are not so long. I merely feel I have much to respond to, and, strive to be accurate and complete in my response, and, with the information I offer.
