Well, I got to admit I recognized it from reading Robert E. Howard's biography ("Dark Valley Destiny" I believe it was called.) Somehow I have missed reading his stories-- some day I should rectify that deficiency. (I think that during my prime fantasy reading time they were out of print.)

The biography was really interesting-- apparently he wrote a lot of books during his short life. Also, he and H.P. Lovecraft had quite a debate about fascism in their correspondence-- Lovecraft for and Howard against. It still seems rather weird to me that the creator of Conan committed suicide because he couldn't face life without his mother-- then again, it has been speculated that Conan was more based on his father then REH.

I'm still curious about who that band in the video was.

Natural horns play from the same principle.

This is not the artificially imposed Pythagorean scale, but is uses fundamental harmonics, like a bird's syrinx.

Oooops! You did answer me, and I missed it! Sorry about asking again!

I don't know as I have any heathen noisemakers at present, but my work schedule precludes my making it to BM any time in the next ten years, anyway. (If I switch jobs, maybe I can make it before I retire...! How likely I am to switch depends upon a lot of factors-- too many to go into.)

I suggest you start with The Dark Man and his short stories and go on to Bran Mak Morn.

I recommend the Lester Dent Doc Savage books too.
