What did you think of the tower?

well i always enjoy rumors on the playa -

what i heard was...
it cost 3/4 of a million dollars -
it was built by the Hiltons - using recycled materials...

my group called it the tower of baybalon.

i thought of the steel worker of the early american industrial revolution...i really imagined what the first skyscrapers must have been like to envision and build. Now that must have been an american dream

a funny thing happened for me... I was sitting by the remains of the man-fire at dawn sunday... the sun came up EXACTLY between a Semi truck and the tower.
whoa... talk about amreicana! weird.

I didn't see it as art and didn't feel very drawn to it, in fact i used my time to do other things then get up on it... i bet the view was amazing!

I was really hoping for a 9/11 style implosion w/ fireworks and fireballs, big enough to make Crude Awakening look like a 15-year-old pyromaniac's butane experiments...

But the view was magnificent.

I liked the view from it, but I thought its design could have been a lot cooler. Its artistic dedication seemed like a bit of an afterthought. Yes, steelwork is an important part of America. But good architecture used to be, too. ...Maybe that crew will stick together and concoct something a bit wilder in the future.

It was the first time I could see the entire cityscape. Unfortunately, I sucked and didn't go see it again at night. That must have been unbelievable and I hope somebody got photos.

Ugly-ass building that looked like it was never finished but, yeah, the view was great and the messages on the way up were cool.

I was standing on the roof of an art bus after the burn, when they brought up the gigantic sheet with flames projected on it. Guess you had to be there to see it.

Jeez, it was incredible that they built that out there! How can you criticize them for not making it even more awesome (and expensive)?
Sure it was "just" a plain steel structure... what did YOU build?
I did go up there, both day and night, and the night view was spectacular!
I always trek to the trash fence at night for the city view, but the night tower view was incomparable.

What impressed my brother and I was that there were no pilings sunk into the playa for support.

It just stood pat on its own. Like others, I thought the view was spectacular but felt there was a missing second act. ("It's a huge building and...") But that goes on me and my expectations.

The crappy playa kept me from visiting it twice unfortunately...

I didn't make it to the tower -- but I *wanted* to. I don't really care what it was made of... I simply respect any group with the gumption to build something like that in the middle of MFing nowhere... who had to take it down and truck it out afterward. Wish I'd caught the view from up there.

there were a lot of access problems. Those crappy entrances on domes for instance.
