I know it's an April Fools Joke, but I may be the only person on this board to like the idea, in a strange kind of way. Lord knows it'll be a nice break from the "Cult of Obama" that seems to own my little city. I love Obama and all, but it's getting a little out of hand down here and I get a feeling it might be worse out in some of the neighborhoods of Black Rock City.

But no point in getting into a political discussion here. That's for angry message boards elsewhere on the intor-webs. Sufficed to say, I adore that old man. I think I've got a small hetero man-crush on him. Anyone who consistently pisses the hell out of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity is OK in my book.

I've liked that Burning Man is mostly free of traditional politics. I was lucky enough to go in '02 and '03, when candidate specific politics, aside from the general anti-war sentiment which is more or less universal in some way shape or form, were reasonably on the down-low. But I always liked BM because there was a place for all kinds. If the American Dream is about anything, it's that.

Plus it'd be awesome if both Obama and McCain showed up to battle it out in the Thunderdome. Man, I'd pay 10 gallons of water, 2 handles of bourbon, 5 joints, a roll of ironic puffy stickers, and the recitation of a badly written sonnet in singing telegram form to see that.

For me, I don't remember a candidate I've "liked", just the one I dis-like the least.......or fear the least.......

Also, for me, it seems peoples hatred is focused so often on the president, when, IMHO, the congress is the "devil".........nothing can happen without their consent, and, we have a much more direct, individual effect on who's there "representing" us........

Most presidents, to me, are "figure heads, puppets, etc"........no real power at all....just someone we can focus on, instead of actually paying attention to congress, and the bullshit that goes on there, graft, corruption, treason....etc, etc.

I have a hard time being as cynical as everybody else. I think Obama would do fine (or nothing.) I think McCain would do fine (or nothing.)

McCain knows more about war than anybody in this forum. He's not going to launch Americans headlong into another one without a really damned good reason. Obama isn't either. Neither one of them have anything to prove to their daddy. I think we've got that base covered.

Political corruption? Who fuckin' knows.

I was listening to some talkshow guy last night on the shop radio saying that the best thing that could happen would be a two-party, one-term ticket wherein the candidates say "We're going to go in, work with both parties, clean the fucking house and then retire from politics. Neither one of us is worried about reelection so the bullshit can stop on Day One." Either one of them can still do that, if the Religious Right or the Clinton Left stays the fuck out of the way.

But I really doubt either candidate is going to arbitrarily send us to war, and regardless of who wins, it'll be better than what we have in terms of both worldwide perception and reality.
