Hmmm...

I'm glad AG, yon member of the exec. board, is taking the time to be a part of this - yeah, it's a rare thing. First time in the dozen or so gigs I've been a part of that I've seen someone so high enter dialogue with the common folk. No joke. Most could care less what we (the lower echelons and attendees) think, and unless we're toadies, apologists, or buttkissers, have no time for us.

The truth is that in most places (Yeah - even this one) a lot of the upper echelons look at us participants and volunteers and labor that pull the event off as scum and ignorant, no matter what history or talents they bring to the table. They forget that before they got involved they brought their stuff to the table, someone gave *them* a chance. Too bad they 'd rather not give that chance to others. Seen events freaking die from that.

That someone is actually talking to you... even if its a message ya don't wanna hear... be freaking grateful.

Not being an apologist - just remarking on something unusual, unique, and decent about a small part of this here gig. What's so f***ing bad about that?

I would like to personally thank Larry for the response. But I do have a few good suggestions on your reply:

1- your post is too long for the average eplayan. so make it concise and under twenty five word or less: under twenty five letters is actually better!

2- never blame yourself. That is why you pay for employees- better yet blame Badger.

3- I think the non-commercial advertising is out of date and prevents BM from getting alot of cool swag. The Swag should be handed out at the gate as you enter- this will keep the greeters from groping use when we drive in even though they say they are looking for illegal contraband. Companies that sell lots of alcohol should be the main focus, but cattle ranches should also be tapped. We got all that excess no mans land outside the perimeter and they can corral their beef there. this way it can be served really fresh especially after the burn to recycle all that lost heat energy from the really hot coals.

4- lets market the event to a sports league: NFL Man 2009! Woo Hoo or Nascar 2010 Fucking A- cars doing 200 in the outside perimeter dodging cattle!

But again Larry, thank you for responding. I always knew in my heart you would never sell us out!

I don't see what the big deal is with having "commercial" companies without logos providing technology/infrastructure to the playa.

ARE YOU BLIND? Who has been to the playa and doesn't know that diesel generators that create electricity for center camp are provided by CATPOWER (catepillar) or that the porta potties are not provided and taken care of by johnny on the spot? These are two huge pieces of infrastructure that are handled by companies that have their logos plainly visible.

if a company wants to donate infrastructure and not have their logo on it, isn't that actually a better system?

I belietve that the Larry bmorg after all a lesson has been learnt here.

1- that we shouldn't mess with the Man's tradition! People love it as it is. Larry and Bmorg might find that boring and stiffeling to their some of their creativity.
2- that the Man and what lies within the center of the area surrounding area is sacred ground.
3- the involvement of new technology is a good idea, but if it can't remain within the limits of expressive art. Then it is best not to include it as a major draw. Otherwords if it can't WOW us or make us think that's really COOOOL!, then it should NOT be given a center stage under the man but somewhere else like a area near center camp.
4- you can't change the world without changing the rules. That meaning I leave as open ended question?

People are creatures more of habit then trend setters and playans are no more different then the rest no matter how radical we think we are.

What happened? A small group of people set up some very lame exhibits under the man. The arsonist came along, made his "statement" (cough, cough) and the exhibitors had no place to do their thing. This basically marked the end of the controversy.

Also it deserves to be noted that AG is expecting, she's pretty far along, and despite people's views on this controversy or any other she doesn't deserve ANYONE throwing shit at her. It's been happening on Tribe and it's just not right. Show some respect and leave her alone.
