Start out small.

I've heard it said that it can take three years for a Theme Camp Idea to come to full fruition. Year One is proof of concept, Year 2 is refinement and year 3 is perfection.

I don't know, I've only ever done a TC for one year and then tried something else.

The point of my original post was that it is better to have a simple idea fully realized then a complicated idea done half assedly. Yes there is a thrill in seeing the monumental art, or looking at a camp with 200 participants and realizing all the work and love that went into an idea. I a lot of shitty playa booze that those ideas were several years in the making or that they had a buttload of money poured into them in a short time.

But then to see a small intimate idea fully realized, that feels good.

So if you've never herded cats, starting with a small herd and a short distance seems to make the best sense.

As much as it kills me to admit this, blyslv is absolutely right. In fact, take it one step further: Start off small and slow, then taper off.

The post said little on what sort of theme camp this is but advice above is good.Start small with a core of two or three.You will need others sharing your vision to contribute time and money.
You also need to be aware of the cost of a theme camp.Initial expenses can add up quickly.There are scores of things you need.And major investments such as a decent tent and a quality(quiet)generator cost thousands.Got a truck to haul your things?Know how much it costs to rent one?
It is not easy the first year.Your location will be dicey.You will have fuck ups.You will have forgotten something.Something will stop working.Attendance will not be what you hoped.Someone will let you down.A dust storm will make its presence felt.
In my camps' case it took 4 years to get to the point I originally envisioned when I undertook the project.The first year was trying.The second year a disaster which has always made me wonder why I cam back for what turned out to be an improved third go-around.Last year was magic and the time and money truly seemed well spent.
