"a small piece of sky" choreography by Jackie Latendresse
Burning Man, Black Rock City, Nevada
Location : The Temple
Date: Thursday August 31st
Time: Rehearsal 6pm Performance 8:30pm
"a small piece of sky" was first presented in December 1995 in Kitchener Ontario as a part of "Quit Staring" at the Volcano Club. It has since been remounted for a variety of performances including Dreamscape which was presented in Saskatoon and Regina in 2005.
The piece is performed blindfolded and is divided into three sections which can be performed in any order that the dancer wishes. This year the work will be performed at Burning Man. There will be a rehearsal/ training session at the Temple at 6pm preceeding the performance. All who wish to take part in the work are welcome. Please wear white and bring a black blindfold. The work is a hommage to women( and men) who have been unjustly incarcerated in Insane Asylms. It is a dance of both hope and fear, of pain and strength and it's minimalist butohesque style help to convey these torn feelings. It is both beautiful and grotesque.
