Dutchies planning on worshipping The Man

Hey guys! I'm Chris. I'm planning on coming to the Burning Man festival this year with 3 friends and my girlfriend. Going to to a road trip in August along the Route 66 and conclude with the festival. We're totally psyched about it. The more we see and hear, the more desperately we NEED to go

Sadly, none of us got tickets in the main sale (price tier 320), so we'll just have to hope we get lucky in the STEP program I guess.

Anyway, thought I'd say hello!

Yes, I have stealthily maintained a low profile. Skulking in the shadows, reading the boards, making the checklists, doing my part to keep the fire stoked on our side - but it's hard to do all that with steepled fingers.

So now it's all like SURPRISE WIENERSCHNITZEL! and funny holy-shit-do-I-ever-feel-even-more-like-participating-now-that-we-struck-out-in-the-lottery vibes.

Wienerschnitzel, I am glad to see you are not easily deterred. Perseverance and a good attitude go a long way out there on the playa. (In 2008, there were two 7-8 hour duststorms at the Burn; one on the Monday of the event at about Noon--just as many a person was trying to set up a tent--and the 2nd storm on the Saturday following.)

Well, I can't speak for all the other schnitzels out there (that would be somewhat rude, not to mention potentially inflamatory what with the Breading Wars and all)... but this Wienerschnitzel is definitely Dutch.

And if you're already confounded by digitally-communicating schnitzel, just wait 'til you run into one on the Playa!

Hey akmojo, that sounds like a great idea! At least, it would if it were possible. But alas, it seems it is not meant to be...

The thing is that as it stands now, we'll be going on a road trip from NYC to LA before we join in the mayhem at Burning Man. The result is that most of our group (if not all of us) will be half a world away when you're in Amsterdam. So while I would love to share a beer with you and listen to the tales, it looks like it's going to be logistically impossible. Barring sudden advances in teleportation tech, of course.

I'm Laura, the Dutchie gal who's coming along with the road trip. Just like the other members of our small group, I'm totally psyched about Burning Man and the road trip through the States.
I'm actually an American girl, born in Plattsburg, NY, but I moved to Holland when I was just a little girl and grew up there... Although, I'm not sure if I ever really grew up .
I left the States way too early, so I've never really had the oppertunity to get to know the real American way of life and it's people. Wouldn't Burning Man be the perfect oppertunity to experience all of that?

Well, not much to do now but keeping my fingers crossed for tickets and enjoy all the preparations.

Sadly me and my friend were one day too late to register for the lottery sale. One day... huge ugh

But we don't despair and are giving it our all to grab a pair at the uncomming open sale. Positive thinking leads to positive results! Fingers crossed!

It's probably fun meeting other dutch people at BM, but I sure as hell hope BM isn't going to flood with dutch people, as happened with the Sziget festival. Apparently the number of dutch people versus the number of people from other nations is now 50/50 over there. And it's quite a long ride to Budapest. Although not as long as watercycling to BM

Congrats on snagging your tickets, Engineer! Yeah, I'd say it's safe to assume we're going to be valiantly dogfighting our way through the ticket queue come March 28th.

@MisaBlue: Well yeah, what did you expect? We Europeans do have a tendency to invade things. Except this time 'round, it's going to be a lot more mellow.

@Chris: You may want to get some water for that quicksand. Also, I think we're still going to be ahead of the Dutch colonization curve. It'll probably - hopefully - be a few more years 'til the Dutch plant their flag in yet another festival.
