There's a lot of information in the Survival Guide, which is mandatory reading by the way.
There are tons of discussions on eplaya on this topic, use the "search" feature.
Some direct answers: Yes, you just show up and make friends!
You camp wherever you want within the city's camping areas, as long as it's not in a placed theme camp area. There are maps.
Choosing where you want to be is something you usually figure out after your first trip.

Check out "Stag Camp" for starters.

Do some web searching and/or search on eplaya for others from Denver that you can hook up with.

Bring good tequila.

Check out Stag Camp. You have a home there. You must read the servival guide though and be self reliant. The thread for Stag cmp is getting rather long but you should read at least the first 2 pages and the last 2. But I recommend the whole thread if you have time. We are under 2008 theme camps

There is a huge party May 24th at the BomB Factory and that would be a good chance to meet Denver-Boulder -C-Springs folks. Apogaea, Colorado's regional burn, is in June. Volunteering as a greeter at Apogaea would be a great way to meet folks. (I just so happen to be the coordinator for Greeters!)
