I really wish someone would explain to me why there is spam being dropped here. There has to be some sort of human intervention at some point, and some of this shit is not even in English, and the words on much of this cannot be read. Is there a hope that some fool will actually click on this and give them a credit card to buy something? There are definately people sitting in dimly lit rooms in some foreign country who are trying to make money with this--I just don't see how.

My guess is that they are running scripts that find websites with phpBB installed, add them to a list, and then automatically create accounts and post stuff.

There is no incentive to identify which boards are more likely to produce sales and which ones would never. You just blast them all. And as long as some idiot somewhere actually buys from them, we all have to suffer.

(That's the interesting question. Who the fuck get's some spam, and then says: Yeah, I want a bigger dick, and buys from them).

If you've been following the boards, I think you'll notice that spammer activity has dropped quite a bit in the last few days. We'll continue to keep working at it, so hopefully no need to stand on a desk, post enlarged pics, or make any phone calls.

I didn't enlarge the photo, just sniped it and uploaded it to photobucket. It didn't look big there either. I know you're working your ass off trilobyte, but I haven't noticed any difference in the volume of spam. Perhaps it's my timing?

It is timing. I'm an early riser in a different time zone, so sometimes I have deleted a bucketful of spam before anyone hits the board. Other mods get it other times. Up to a hundred posts a day when they're really active. Seems like as soon as one gets knocked down, others take up the slack.

If they are too busy to do it, they need to subcontract it out to be done. And trilobite, please don't insult us by trying to defend their behavior and make excuses for them. There is no valid excuse.

I know it's not the fault of the mods that read this thread. My question was, if they haven't been listening to you guys then would they listen to us? Sometimes it takes many voices to get the wheels greased.

I think a smart and quick fix is to delete the users who are blatant spammers--like froggfukker etc. Dump the users and there will be a challenge to keep added them back in. A list of abusers needs to be given to an admin for dumping. It wouldn't take long to do that.

Yes, I guess a mod could do that. Would they? I doubt it; but then I'm not a mind reader. But I certainly agree that until they (the admins of BMORG) install the spam blocking module, the board needs as many spam warriors as possible.

People are listening, wheels are turning, our most recent list should be processed (blocking 47 more nuisances that we've identified) on Monday, admin privileges should be sorted in the next week, and a decent sized list of additional issues will get actioned as quickly as possible (some before the burn, some after). There are a couple back end issues to work out before we can get a challenge question or Captcha thing set back up for account creation, it sounds like something that won't get to be addressed until post-burn. As for deputization, I think that one will be a go as well.
