I don't know. The word technically means "unmarried" so you could be screwing every woman and half the men in your--congregation is not the right word, but it's the one I'm finding in my brain--and technically still be celibate if you weren't married. Obviously, the word has changed meaning in any practical sense. And whatever words they use in Greek and Russian, it's a sure bet that those words have different histories and nuances.
I think I know that to be a Patriarch you have to be celibate. Maybe I should look at wikipedia and learn a little more about the orthodox church.
