My Bride and I are getting married in less than a month and we just got through writing out our wedding vows. After the first couple of drafts of the same 'hum drum - Non Burning Man attempts' - we decided to write them in the style of a Dr. Suess book. I read Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and Oh the Places You'll Go. After this research reading we came up with the following:
By the way --- "BOBO" is our officiant - "MISTY" is the bride - and "NATE" is the groom
BOBO: I’d like to welcome you one, welcome you all
Welcome the short, welcome the tall,
Welcome the young, welcome the old,
To this, a wedding for you to behold!
These two will be wed, wed for all time,
The two have decided to do it in rhyme.
That’s how they decided they wanted it to be
Something that’s romantic yet entertaining to see.
Let’s get started if the two of you dare
A lifetime of love you two will share.
The time is now and do this you must,
Answer my questions and your word we will trust.
NATE: I will answer your questions, answer right now,
Proclaiming our love through this wedding vow.
I love her so much, love her and how?
I love her much more than a cat can meow!
I love her so much; I’m her number one fan,
It’s our Rite of Passage at this Burning Man!
MISTY: I too am ready, ready dear Nate
To be married to you, with you as my mate,
Our lives together will be great,
Happiness I anticipate,
It’ll be like a lifelong date,
a family with whom to participate.
BOBO: Then let us proceed here in the sand.
Our Rite of Passage at Burning Man,
Lengthy ceremonies, I'm not a fan,
...so worry not; I'll go as fast as i can!
NATE: There's just one part I’m sure not to miss.
My favorite part, the part where we kiss.
I would not miss that here or there
Fully clothed or in our underwear,
I would not miss that and for this I’m stern
I would not miss that, even for the BURN!
MISTY: We’ll get to that part, that part will come soon,
And much more than kissing on our honeymoon!
Let’s get to the part, the part where we show,
That from this moment on our love to will grow.
BOBO: will you take her as your wife?
Will you love her all of your life?
Will you have and also hold,
Just as you have at this time told?
NATE: yes, I will take her as my wife,
I'll happily love her all of my life!
I do promise to have and to hold,
Just as I have at this time told.
BOBO: And Misty will you love through good and through bad?
Whether times are happy or if times are sad?
Will you love him all of your life,
Agreeing to be husband and wife?
MISTY: Yes, I will love him through the good and the bad,
whether times are happy or if times are sad.
I too will have and will hold,
Just as i have at this time told.
I promise to love all of my life
And from now on be husband and wife!
BOBO: Will you love her when you're fit,
And also when you're feeling sick?
NATE: yes, I'll love her when we're fit,
And when we're hurt, and when we're sick,
And I will love her when we're rich
And I will love her in a ditch
And I will love through good times and bad,
And I will love when glad, sad, or mad.
I'll especially love her when she wants to be bad!
I will have and I will hold
Ten years from now a thousand fold,
Yes, I will love for my whole life
this lovely woman as my wife!
BOBO: Will you love him with all of your heart?
Will you love until death do you part?
MISTY: yes, I will love with all of my heart,
From now until death do us part,
And I will love him when we're rich,
And when we're broke and in a ditch,
And when we're fit, and when we're sick,
Of all the men, he’s the one I pick!
And I will love him through good and bad,
And I will love him when glad or sad,
And I will have and I will hold
And if I might now be so bold,
I'll love him my entire life,
Happily living as husband and wife!
BOBO: If you'll love each other through and through,
Please respond with the words, "I Do!"
Misty & Nate: I do!
BOBO: Then let me be the first,
To congratulate you in this verse.
I now pronounce you husband and wife,
I know you will have a happy life!
