Lots of luck, the gender ratio is not in your favor. Some people do make connections out there, but it is one of the truisms of this board that wanting that too much will keep it from happening. It's only slightly less hopeless than wanting to be a dj.
You might try learning how to bead (or buying a minor burner and start making glass--that might be more macho) and go to beading shows. Gender ratio much more in your favor.
