Video says its the black rock playa, not Lake Lahontan.

Either way, all the Lakes in the Reno area are crazy high right now.

Friends of mine observed that in July 1998, in hot dry weather. They were camped near the west side road, up near the 1996 bunringman site, and the wet spot at the terminus of the Quinn River advanced a couple miles westward overnight, almost flooding their campsite. They guessed it might have been due to afternoon snowmelt upriver.

Wow, that's cool. In an annoying way if you're camping there, but I think it's neat how the water just moves around out there.

It IS like another planet to me.

I know there's perfectly rational reasons for why it does, but still that seems like such an otherworldly place.

If you search Black Rock City in google earth. Then follow the path from Highway 34 you can see the rings from years past.

My son got his playa name..."MudBoy"...when he attempted to ride his bike through a wet spot, at Spring cleanup. A DPW truck had to haul him out of the mud. He thought he was in trouble, but it made our weekend.
