There has been a lot of chatter among my campmates, some are decade or more Burners involved with the event, that are seeing a lot of things pointing to 2011 having been the last year.

What are your thoughts?

I've got some clues that I found just for you!

1-Go to http://www.burningman.com. Look about 2 inches down from the top on the right side. There is a counter that says "The Man burns in *** days!"

2-The Borg just moved into a new office & formed a new corporate structure. Not the behavior of a group that is going to stop doing what they do.

3-Go here & subscribe to The Jack Rabbit Speaks, and READ IT when it shows up in your inbox.

4-The vast number of threads that have flogged this dead equine repeatedly.

Didn't mean to piss anyone off. Took a cursory look around and didn't catch the thread.
However, The move to a non-profit could be in support of shifting to a Regional-centered culture.
Also, I subscribe to and read Jack Rabbit Speaks.
And the countdown on the Org site was removed for several days.
Don't get your panties in a twist, all I did was ask.

I have it from pretty reliable sources.

We should probably start announcing to the world that they need to make other plans for the week before labor day. And the sooner they book the Mexico and Hawaii vacations, the better deals they'll get. We need to inform people that Burning Man is canceled and put down deposits on other vacation plans ASAP

Sounds like you camp with a bunch of conspiracy theorists who don't put much stock into basic research. Had anyone looked even a little, they may have found out things like:

• Until 2006, the theme wasn't announced at the event. In fact, it happened many months later.
• Ticket on-sale dates haven't typically been announced this far in advance.
• While the permit has not yet been renewed (it's still pending the results of the environmental impact study), both the BMOrg and the BLM have publicly stated that they expect the 5-year permit to be renewed.
• There have been a number of smaller events going on for years (both BMOrg-related regional events, and those created by those who 'took it off the playa), they've grown in size and scale as has the Burning Man event.
• The "there is no way of knowing one way or the other" in the last bullet is kind of funny - one could simply do some looking or ask someone.

I can assure you, having been to BMHQ in the last week and having discussed the issue of both theme and 2012 burn with staffers, there will most definitely be an event. As has been publicly stated, permit negotiations are waiting on the results of the study, and both sides expect to reach an agreement on a 5 year renewal. Theme announcement is expected very soon, and you'll probably see an announcement regarding ticket availability in the Jack Rabbit Speaks later in the fall.

Larry should be careful. A lot of those hosting sites have autopay locked on. Probably charge the card till the account is closed.

Actually 2010 was the last year. Nobody told us so we all just showed up anyway. It was a little "stone soup." It will continue to happen out of habit for a few more years, with the population dwindling and infrastructure getting scanter. at some point, USS will notice that they aren't getting paid and the rump event will collapse in on itself.
