I'm a pretty crafty person and make lots of stuff, but I have this one clothing item that I bought online because it's beyond amazing (I bought it for myself for my birthday). This item gets major ooooh's and ahhhhhh's everytime I wear it, so much so that I don't wear it if I don't want to interact and have my photo taken with tons of people.

Usually when I'm wearing cool stuff that I made, I love the question, "Did you make that?" But when I'm wearing this particular item, it's not as fun to answer. In fact, I feel like I'm disappointing people if I say, "No, I bought It." So I need some better lines...I've come up with a few, but I thought it would be fun to pick your brains.

Help me come up with some good answers to "Wow, that's so cool...did you make it?"

Simply say: "Why thank you, it's one of my favorites. Glad you like it too." and move on with the conversation. You have a 99% chance they won't ask again. If you want to guarantee a 100% chance they won't repeat the question, follow up the above with question about their outfit or anything actually.

I'll try to find a good photo...the thing is, it's blacklight and a movement-related experience, so it's hard to capture it in a photo. Will try to find one to post, though.

I like this answer, because it is both gracious and evasive.

I do a similar thing when acquaintances or strangers say "How are you?" (which is an expression of goodwill, not really a true question) and I'm in a hurry or don't feel like saying "Fine!" or "Shitty, and it's not even your business" I tend to answer with "Hi!" and a smile and most people don't even notice. Then, we're even. A pleasantry for a pleasantry.

My first thought of an answer was: "I WILLED IT INTO BEING."

On the same line, how 'bout having the name and coordinates of the person who did it handy to provide to the Really REALLY Impressed? ...sending love back to the artist AND giving the admirer an opportunity to find their own. (or is this a no-no?)

I don't think there's any shame in not having made it yourself. You're sporting something that brings people joy. You made that particular joy happen right then and there, thru whatever means.

I was lucky enough to purchase the same poof skirt for Burning Man off of Etsy. Folks literally stopped in their tracks/bikes to come over and do our project so they could ask about the amazing skirt. Hundreds of compliments can be exhausting.

Well, I wore the skirt on the playa, too, and it was great having some answers ready when the throngs of fans approached. My most frequent answer was, "I manifested it".

(And I always gave out the info for the artist who made it).
