Limits of Growth?

For 2010, the population of Black City went beyond 51,000. Other than the B.L.M. permit requirements, are there any limits of growth? Given the recent trajectory of growth, the population of Black Rock City could exceed 100,000 in seven or eight years.

The current city planning concept is brilliant. As the population grows, more perimeter streets (L, M, N, etc) could be added and perhaps starting at "K", you would find 0:15 and 0:45 radial streets to keep the blocks at a manageable scale.

One of the downsides of this population growth would be the arrival and the exodus. Perhaps the Man burns on Friday night and the Temple burns on Saturday night to allow for a larger "exodus window" for the population to return to the default world.

There is all sorts of speculation on the boards about this. What I remember is someone suggesting that there wasn't going to be much more population allowed because of 447's carrying capacity.
BLM has not published any info about the new permit yet.

Gotta agree with Crypto. It's the road. Going from 50K to 60K might be OK, but it could also push the ingress/egress times over the edge.

If the arrival/departure times could be spread out more then the carrying capacity of the playa itself will not be exceeded for a while, especially if the BLM bumps up the area (we use only a few percent of the available area of the Black Rock desert).

Given the quick sale of the first 27K tickets I wonder if this is the year we get real gridlock. Or maybe there will be some measures taken to spread out the traffic. I guess we'll see.
