I know many folks LOVE that sound but that is truly the only thing I hated at Burning Man. I tried to embrace it every way I could think but alas, it never stopped irritating my cells. You can call it the heartbeat of the man or whatever but it's still monotonous, obnoxious, single-noted, unimaginative, annoying sound pollution. I think it's fine to have it in stationary locations so that folks who don't want to be slathered can remove themselves from it. With it on the move, there's no escape, and it really harshed my playa groove. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The Robot Heart Bus in particular needs to die. It is basically a big sound camp on wheels that points its shitty music right at the city. At least the corner camps have the decency to point their shit out towards the open playa.

I, also, am not a big fan of techno blasting away on the art cars. Or techno. However, and I say this a little hesitantly, I really don't mind it. I don't know it in any other way, just out on the playa. Yeah, it's a little one-notey. Yeah, it goes on and on. Yeah, it wakes me up sometimes.

And then I think, "Cool, I'm at Burning Man."

And just go back to sleep...

My vote is to curb the loud techno. I do not mind that some people enjoy techno -- everybody has the right to their own preference in music. But the techno fans seem far too eager to "share", and that's a problem.

We had the Gypsy Ghetto bus across the street from us. Sunday night they played dubstep until 3AM and we could not even have a normal conversation. Monday night we braced for another night of the same,,,, but they mixed it up with some Pavarotti, Grateful Dead and old disco tunes. Made it more tolerable, but still could not have a conversation or even consider listening to our own music. We figure if the next camp cannot drown out your music and listen to their own tunes, you're too damn loud!

But honestly,,,, it is part of what the week is about. The Rangers did have more than one conversation with the Gypsy Ghetto bus and convinced them that they should be rolling instead of overwhelming an entire neighborhood for hours on end. By Wednesday we were pretty much balanced out with our neighbors and actually took turns cranking our own tunes for a few songs.

I agree that 2 weeks earlier would be better for many involved with school or children. I'm with Simon on limiting limitations too.

Ahhhh lucky you. I tried earplugs, ear muffs, drugs, booze, pillows, nothing let me go back to sleep. If I could sleep through it I wouldn't mind it but alas...couldn't find a way. Our camp was pretty centralized, probably part of the problem...5:30 and Detroit.
