I find the simularities between Nascar and Burningman very funny.

thousands of people flock to a far off place to camp in MotorHomes and tents, dress funny, decorate their camps and drink/do drugs for a week. The only difference I see is that one embraces the economy of waste and the other shourds it in language like "leave no trace"

thoughts?....

lmao i have never heard anyone preaching conserve lmao in fact at this point without the excessiveness ie 100,000 of thousands of gallons of gas spent coming and going and money and braincells etc.The only point i have poundeed into my brain is at the end and during the event is pick that shit up and take it with you don't leave you're waste behind.personnally i would prefer more waste and burning shit the man should be hollow nekt year and hold 100,000 gallons kerosene lmao. dj big E laugh don't cry mother fucker

Extend the example and the case could be made that BM is also like a political convention.

But similarities - especially superfical observations of seemingly like behaviors - belie the intent of one group when you dig down deep. The word 'culture' might be appropriately applied to all three examples but 'community' as far as I can tell can only be assigned to one of them.

At a NASCAR event large numbers of SPECTATORS pay to be entertained for a few hours by 43 PARTICIPANTS and their support crews. Need I go on? And by the way, after being a participant in another auto race venue, being a spectator has lost some of its' appeal.

I live in North carolina, where NASCAR began. I think the races are boring, and I think BM & a car race are on two ends of the spectrum; far far away from eachother. Alcohol is consumed at both events, fer sure, and there ARE fires at both (one event they're encouraged, the other event dreads them).
That's about where the similarities stop. Maybe there's some between BM and say the Baja off road, or the Tangiers cross-desert race.

Now maybe if everyone just went left around the esplanade, we'd have something...

I think NASCAR uses ethanol, the corn-based gas. Not sure...

Not in my camp, buddy. PBR is my playa beer of choice. Yeah, I had some
Boddington's and some Guinness, but I gave them away at the end of the
week largely undrunk. Brought the whole case of Red Hook home. (And
none of those are microbrews anyway.)
