It's quite a lovely painting, Mrs. Custer,
Like Washita, Bull Run, and Valley Forge.
But the kind of odds they gave him
Only Hollywood could save him.
I'm sorry things turned out that way for George.
Some say he got the big head on the Big Horn
When he split his force up into groups of three
Benteen and Major Reno,
They weren't so very keen oh
To go poking were the Indians would be
Sitting Bull was standing by the river,
Sioux outnumbered him by twenty-five to one.
But he never lost his cool now,
He was nobody's fool now
He knew the Sioux would have to pack and run, run, run
by Mr and Mrs Garvey 1968
A brilliant album.
I can't find it online except as a download.
If you have the chance to hear this, take it, especially on vinyl.
There are better songs on it.
This one was a light spoof.
Great line about Sitting Bull though.
Victoria is still performing, last I heard, as Victoria Armstrong, and in New Mexico.
Pat Garvey had a stroke and was in recovery in 2010.
Brilliant writers.
Fugacity was covered by John Denver, and Steve Goodman released one of theirs too.
