One of my regular customers hung himself.

Joe was schizophrenic and his voices often told him to hurt himself. He was medicated the entire time I knew him, but he once told me that the meds never turned the voices off, it just muffled them. Apparently, the meds stopped doing even that.

Rest in peace, Joe. I hope where ever you are, it's quiet.

Coptic Christians celebrate gathered to celebrate Easter but this year’s celebrations have been more subdued out of respect for Pope Shenouda’s III passing.

Easter Sunday festivities were canceled and the Saturday night vigil from the Coptic cathedral was not projected in the streets outside the other churches of Cairo has previously been the case.

But vigil masses took place as usual, with several hours of sung prayers, candlelit processions and sacred readings.

The 88-year-old patriarch of the church died on March 17, leaving the Coptic community without its well-loved and active leader.

The Patriarch of Arabia has indeed passed.

News of Levon Helm's passing makes my early teenage years rush back -- waiting for something from Big Pink on the FM radio and grabbing The Band's brown album when it first hit the racks at Doughty's Records on Geary St, the third album I ever purchased on my allowance after Sgt. Pepper and Are You Experienced?

No doubt "The Weight" is the monster god from that first album, "Chest Fever" a massive descent into Purgatory, but "Tears of Rage", the first cut, is the terrible angel at the gate. A simple dirge to fatherhood and daughterhood, the battle of life, lyrics by Dylan, the rest arranged by the band, and listening to it now breaks me to my bones hearing the heartbeat-tug of the sustain on Helms' drum beats.

Tears of rage, tears of grief
Why must I always be the thief?
Come to me now, you know we're so low
And life is brief

Had a Local Curmudgeon spot on the KRON news in Frisco 1982-1988. Comments under the article reveal way more than the article. Apparently took his own life in Idaho last fall and they finally found his body a week ago. What's it all mean?

It means they probably weren't looking all that hard to try and find his body.

How long did it take to find Hemingway's body?

This makes me very sad.

Maurice Sendak, author of "Where the Wild things Are" and "Mickey in the Night Kitchen," has passed away.

“In plain terms, a child is a complicated creature who can drive you crazy” Sendak told the AP in 2009. “There’s a cruelty to childhood, there’s an anger. And I did not want to reduce Max to the trite image of the good little boy that you find in too many books.”

Sendak stayed away from the book-signing bandwagon that many other authors use for publicity; he said he couldn’t stand the thought of parents dragging children to wait on line for hours to see a little old man in thick glasses.

“Kids don’t know about best sellers,” he said. “They go for what they enjoy. They aren’t star chasers and they don’t suck up. It’s why I like them.”
If you want drama to stop following you everywhere, try letting go of the leash.
