Well, the First of May is coming around again and I thought I should bump my own thread.
HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!

I haven't opened a topic in quite a while, but May 1st is tomorrow and I wanted to share this.

Many years ago, I heard that on May 1st, if you say the phrase out loud, "white rabbit, white rabbit, bring me good luck", you will have one full year of good luck. This needs to be the first words you speak when you wake up on May 1st. I have been doing this consistently for many years and I seem to be a pretty lucky person.

So, on May 1st, when you wake up, say out loud, "WHITE RABBIT, WHITE RABBIT, BRING ME GOOD LUCK".

If anyone else has any info on this, could they post it here? I'm not sure where this started, but it seems to work.

Did just that this morning.

And then, as everyone woke up and started emerging from their rooms I yelled at them to say it too.... which they did.


My daughter and I were sitting on the couch when my son came out of his room, and she yelled in glee to him "Oh look! A DOLLAR!!" -- leaning over to pluck up what wasn't there (as incentive to my son to SAY IT, DAMMIT!!!).

Funny thing is, not a minute later, I realized there was not one dollar but two sitting mere inches from where she'd feigned the find.

And the gods have blessed us with a second sunny, dry day in a row.... which means we get to at least take the covers off the temp garages and let the grounds underneath dry out abit.

Yes, it's a beautiful day. So, at lunch today, I stopped into Staples to pick up my new Burning Man rubber stamp that I use for tattooing people. It turns out they made it in the wrong size. They are going to do it over, but told me I could keep the wrong one if I wanted it.
This kind of stuff happens nearly every day! Thanks rabbit!

WHITE RABBIT ROCKS AGAIN!

Here’s my story for today :

My daughter decided that this summer she wanted a less sedentary job, and ended up getting chosen to do surveillance on the local bicycle path (which traverses the entire province). Her corridor is about a +30km stretch.

This meant she needed a new bike. Her current bike being stupid-heavy with huge knobbly tires, stupidly handpainted and peeling and an allaround rustbucket. (we could fix the last two points… but not much we could do about the first)

So we started looking for a decent 2nd hand bike..

Not much out there that fit in our budget (couldn’t Believe the number of bikes in the $1000`s range!!! USED!!! Apparently Quebeckers like nice bikes)

Well yesterday, the Magic Ad appeared on the local internet sales site: 1 hybrid bike (perfect for cycle path) in good condition. Including a lock, waterbottle and holder, a Louis Garneau helmet, a pair of padded bike shorts and padded cyclist gloves: $150.

So I called immediately and arranged for my husband and daughter to go take a look at it last night.


I was really pleased when they got home to see that they bought it. (one less thing to worry about). Was ASTOUNDED, taking it out of the car at how extremely light it was. I’ve never felt a bike that light before. It was in absolute pristine condition.

I’d never heard of the brand name before --- which hardly mattered. We weren’t interested in the brand. But the weight (as well as the multiple “pedigree statementsâ€

I woke up with bunny ears on. Then talked to my dog. Then I answered my own question for him.
I have never said white rabbit, and consider myself unlucky from birth. I do however enjoy coversations with my dog and look hawt in bunny ears.

Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)



Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Ready In: 2 Hours
Servings: 4

"Rabbit stew made with bacon, wine, garlic, shallots, other herbs and spices."
Ingredients:
3 pounds rabbit meat, cleaned and cut
into pieces
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 pound bacon, diced
1/2 cup finely chopped shallots
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 cup dry red wine
1 cup water

1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
1 tablespoon currant jelly
10 black peppercorns, crushed
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
2 teaspoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Directions:
1. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain on paper towels and set aside. Sprinkle rabbit with salt and coat with 1/3 cup flour, shaking off excess. Brown rabbit in remaining bacon fat. Remove from skillet, along with all but 2 tablespoons of the fat, and reserve.
2. Saute shallots and garlic in skillet for about 4 minutes, until tender. Stir in wine, 1 cup water and bouillon. Heat to boiling, then stir in jelly, peppercorns, bay leaf, rosemary and thyme. Return rabbit and bacon to skillet. Heat to boiling, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer about 1 1/2 hours or until rabbit is tender.
3. Remove bay leaf and discard. Place rabbit on a warm platter and keep warm while preparing gravy.
4. To Make Gravy: Stir lemon juice into skillet with cooking liquid. Combine 3 tablespoons water with 2 tablespoons flour and mix together; stir mixture into skillet over low heat. Finally, stir in thyme. Pour gravy over stew and serve, or pour into a gravy boat and serve on the side.
