well, I got the stationary door (of the pair) deadbolts designed, fabbed and installed.......

3/4" bolt lock pins (for scale)

I went to home depot and got parts and paint this afternoon.
Amazingly, I bought only one or two
useless items that I didn't really need.

Rustoleum has a kick-ass powder pink gloss spray paint.
It makes me want to go paint things that aren't mine .

With that paint, Project HellAKitty limps off the line.


The starting point is a foam rubber movie prop gun.
Ebay, $30, 1997. Nice detail but really chewed up.



This shade of pink will be the base color.
For contrast detail I got some white but should
have grabbed some darker pink too.
I still gotta find some quality
decals or learn how to paint.


Is the green painters tape (gecko?) really better
than the blue masking tape?

I decided to make another fire poofer using only home depot parts.
Most folks have one or something like it nearby.
They had everything I needed except an accumulator.
Of course you could buy one of the exchange cylinders...

Total cost: $76.01
That includes $20 for an ice maker install kit for
the 15ft of 1/4" copper tubing to make the pilot.
It seems they no longer carry bulk Cu tubing @ my HD.
You could save $10 - $15 by going to a hardware store
and buying 6-8 feet.
I have SS 1/4" tubing in the shop but wanted to
do a solid HD only parts build as much as possible.

This is for a manually actuated ball valve type.
I prefer solenoid valves and so should you.
Or perhaps a quick-opening, self-closing globe valve,
AKA 'whistle valve'.

That's for shutoff when using a solenoid valve which
this one will have after testing to see how it works
as a manual piece.

Again, omit the valve at the bottom of the pic
if you're not running a solenoid valve.
When using a solenoid, omit the top ball valve and
install your solenoid valve in place of it.




The assembled poofer. With a three foot stack this is
going to be a sit-downer, unless you have no need for hair.
A four foot section would be much better.
When you install a solenoid valve it won't matter.
You ARE going to install a SV, right?

I'm not too crazy about Watts brand compression fittings.
If you can afford it, go with Swagelok, Cajon, Colder, Sno-trik,
Or other industrial compression fittings.
Expensive? Yes. Ultra reliable? Definitely.
Look for em on ebay.

All of the usual disclaimers apply:
Don't start a fire any larger than you think might
attract undue attention.

Offer burn gel to victims after extinguishing them (common courtesy).

Check that your fire insurance premiums are paid up BEFORE
setting the house on fire. Collecting will be more difficult
without a valid policy.

When using inside your home, turn the ceiling fan on first.
This should confuse the flames and prevent a house fire.

I've been thinking about scaling down in size
to make them a little more portable. More mobile...
A mini-poofer.
I converted two old Manchester Power Jet 'Fires of Hell' limited
edition weed burners with combo whistle valve and adjustable pilot.
They're all 1/4"NPT.
To convert I removed the orifices from the main tubes.
And that was it. They're the shorter straight tubes.
Made up a 1L accumulator system and ran the other
straight from the tank. Couldn't tell the difference.

When testing tonight my neighbor down below
came out on his porch and lit some roman candles. Love that guy.

I may mount two of these tanks on a packframe with three 1lb cans.










They're louder than the 1/2"NPT.
Gonna hafta make a 1/8"NPT micro-poofer.

ygmir, awesome work, but WHAT are you trying to keep out with that door. I'm afraid.

Firefox, you're on the right track, but needs a few adjustments, feel free to PM me and we'll talk about it. But most importantly if you plan on using it on the Playa it NEEDS to be sch 80 or turn down the pressure via a regulator (who wants to do that?). And either way you MUST use yellow gas rated tape, not the white kind, good catch OED.

Between espresso dude, OED, and I ,surely you'll be getting some great hard learned tips. Although you might watch out if OED tells you "its just the tip"
