Damn, another long hard day. With only a few days to go, it seemed to be 'now or never' time for the cooler rack project last night, and I had to decide which of the possible ideas swirling around my head were the way I wanted to go. I figure I'll need to make 6 of them for the camp, so cost was a factor. Ideally I wanted something fold-up that would require little work on the playa… but posh was way outside the scope of the budget. So I wazzed up something that would be easy enough to build on the playa, figured out all the lumber and parts I'd need, and today I headed off to the local hardware shop. And of course, typical - try to support the local guy, but the bastards were out of a connector piece I needed so it was off to the Despot. Grabbed what I needed for that as well as the evap pond, the backing for the standees, and an elevated bit I want for the shower stall.



Got back home in time to stencil the new bins and my wrist brace (there was no way that wasn't going to happen) and then for the girl to arrive from work. A few kisses and shouting plans at each other, then it was timeto head over to my workshop joint to do all the cutting on all that lumber. A few hours later and a few hundred linear feet of lumber's all cut to spec and marked for each project. Tomorrow morning I've got to run over to storage to offload some of that stuff, then back home to get the chalkboard surface sprayed onto those damned standees. Then it's mostly pre-cooking and packing my own shit from here on out, oh yeah and meeting up with my bacon bacon guy for lunch. Holy shit, we might be able to pull this all together in time!

Reminds me of my last year w/ DPW on "special" projects, the year of the space theme, '04. Larry wanted me to turn all the org golf carts into space shuttle sort of things, very similar to your avatar. Think Rod came up with a drawing. So we ordered dozens of Sonotubes to strap on the sides, with old orange traffic cones for noses and scrap plywood fins. Sadly, due to other crews robbing my people at the end, we only got one or two finished. Figured the Sonotube could be repurposed after the event, but I think the ranch manager tossed or burned the fuckers.

I was thinking about ways to attach lighting to stuff, and I got the idea that I might epoxy velcro to my nuts.

I think I'd have gone with GOOP tm, it cures a bit more flexible. await your report.

yeah, I'd like to get all the works up a bit off the ground, larger wheels would help with that as well.

I find that moving slow makes a lot of heat on connections and control box.
There is heat there so you can not dust cover very much..
Suggest you change drive ratios to the speed your going to be traveling most of the time.

Worked pretty well I think, here is a picture of my nuts with the velcro attached:

I've been playing with programming patterns, but I can't figure out how to make a decent video of LED effects with my phone.


After I took it all down tonight (it needs additional weatherproofing), the velcro detached from one of my nuts. I dunno why it didn't bond well to the metal, I thought that I had mixed it well.

That looks awesome, Frogbird! FYI, from my experience the best way to try and catch video of something like that would probably to catch it during twilight - after the sun's gone over the horizon but there's still light in the sky.
