It seems the most often given instruction to newbies regarding posting on the forum is to "Enable BBCode and Smilies".
Maybe these features could be enabled by default?

You can by going to your profile and choosing "Always allow BBCode:" and "Always enable Smilies:".

Old hats can do this in their sleep. Having it enabled so the new people can use the cool features would be another step towards making this board friendlier to use.
