Tandem Skydiving For A Virgin Possible?

Ok, I bet this topic has never come up (maybe).

Going to BM for the 2nd time in 2013. I am 55, have had a hip replacement and have been scared crapless to go skydiving in my lifeime, to the point I think I would have a heart attack. The only time I would EVER think about doing something SO out of my comfort zone would be at Burning Man as a tandem jump with an experienced person. I just got a Go Pro Camera and thought hmmmmmm, what are the chances of someone taking me for my first time. Crazy? Not even sure if it is possible with having a hip replacement a year and a half ago. You never know until you ask.Let the snarking begin

While, I have never jumped out of a airplane I know that happens at burning man...

From what I know, there are groups that do skydive at Burning man. I do not believe any of them tandem dive. (I could be wrong though!)

To skydive into Burning Man you need to have 100 jumps under your belt. There is no type of tandem jumping allowed into the city.
I have gone up in the jump plane on several occasions as an observer (with a rig on) and watched others head out the door into the city. The views are great and the experience truly memorable.

I was so intrigued with this, that when I got home, I did a tandem jump. Well worth with effort. I would definitely do it again.

If Lodi, CA isn't too far off course on your way to the playa you may want to consider going there for a tandem jump. I went to Parachute Center in Lodi. They aren't a super fancy business, but they've been in business for over 40 years.... Since you can't do it on the playa... Do it on the way?

Given your experience level, confidence level, and health issues I don't think it's something you'd be able to pull off. And I've got to imagine that the last thing a seasoned skydiver would be interested in would be getting strapped to a gopro tourist. If you're serious about the desire and are willing to put in the time, training, and expense (skydiving isn't cheap), try contacting one of the various skydiving groups.

winebuff, I am thinking of doing an AFF course when i am over there, Skydance skydiving in sacremento seem, on perusing the web, to be one of the better places and as far as i can tell a british licence would cost me about $1500 dollars though a single tandem jump is about $200 or something around there. prolly a bit cheaper. i suspect you would need to ask a Doctor (not doc pyro - i don't think he is that kind of dr) for a medical opinion or certificate

i wanted to try a get my 10th jump (the one that gets you your licence) to be into BRC but as shambala pointed out they are pretty strict as to the number of jumps you need to have done to jump in BRC - funny winds and stuff i understand
