Greetings Burners (Virgins and Vetrans alike)!
Playa Surfers is looking for new members to join our amazing community! Please read below and if it inspires go to www.PlayaSurfers.com for more information or hit me back here with any questions.
WHY DO I WANT TO JOIN PLAYA SURFERS:
Burning Man will be, hands down, the experience of a lifetime no matter how you choose to do it. The benefits of being a Playa Surfer are both tangible and unpredictable, but we will try to do it a little justice with this summary. The human perks are mysterious, unknowable in this moment, and diverse, like our camp. Conversations at all hours of the day and night, fellow marauders with whom to roam the countryside, cuddle puddle campmates that know all your favorite songs and some of their own, that sacred ingredient topping off the perfect meal after the perfect sunset, it really is impossible to know what your experience will be with each other, but whatever it is it will be brilliant.
On the more simple to explain infrastructure side, your camp dues and efforts during the work days cover an array of creature comforts for 2013, like community drinking water, and a private structure for your showering needs, the maintenance of our wave structure and DJ booth and rental of a generator with sound system, a bachelor-style kitchen set-up, the back performance area as well as private comfort-designed chill out space inside camp, night lighting and community fire fuel, maintenance resources, storage and transportation of our many more theme items like the Tiki party elements, surf boards, and this year’s new art car!
WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013:
For the last 6 years we have been given the opportunity to share our pristine goodies with other Burners by having secured frontage space on the much loved Esplanade. Last year our space spanned all the way back to A Street. Trying to not let it go to our heads, we hope the Burning Man community continues to put us at the center of the earth giving us pristine camping somewhere in the 4:30 sector and Esplanade.
As for the physical camp, our beloved replica LA County Lifeguard Tower shall once more be our night beacon home on the frontage. The epic wave structure will again grace us with shade and a hub for our thunderous beats, as beachfront campfire space with surf lounge chairs and our burn barrel host night-long chats under the stars. Surf and moop-friendly flaming tiki decorations will adorn public spaces reminding all of that beloved slow time provided by the steady waves crashing on the beach.
Our first time extending to the A Street side saw a wildly popular use of space for impromptu fire spinning, spinning lessons, and other performances from our own campers and inspired passersby. The tea time “Tiki Lounge & Bar” will again be open to the public daily for interpersonal games, and simple or intellectual pursuits from noon to 4pm.
As is the backbone of our larger community, our frontage space on the Esplanade and A Streets are used to interact with our fellow Burners, and share with them our many interests and skills. Our main shared activities and spaces are: fire spinning (or with LEDs should you be a fire-vegan) on all fronts, and lessons on the Esplanade on our motorized surfboards, guided surfing of the only dry-water playa wave, great day-time beats under our epic wave structure, our well know off-the-hook lifeguard Baywatch Party (bring your red swimwear), and the tea time Tiki Lounge with adjacent performance area on A Street. With more goodies to be announced!
Oh, yeah…and checkout the upcoming 2013 Tiki Island art car!!!
