So the pipe tobaco makers figured they could get in on the market by making an unflavored tobaco for making your own smokes.

FWIW, a carton of Camels is running about $48 in Denver. Pretty much everywhere except Shell gas stations. For what ever reasons their cigarettes are extra expensive around here.

Wherever you buy them, make sure you take a few minutes to de-package them. Remove them from the carton, take off the whole outer plastic, the inner foil liner -- all of it -- less packaging means less moop. Then, re-package them into large freezer bags. Should keep them relatively fresh until you're ready to use them.

As a dedicated smoker, allow me to offer a tip about lighters. Buy a big pack of them, tie several of them to two-foot-or-so twine, affix the twine solidly to the lighter with a little duct tape. Then, once you're on site, you can tie them where you'll often be looking for them - near your tent/car/rv, on your shade structure, on your camp chair, in your chill space, on your bike, near your kitchen - wherever makes sense to you. When the need arises, voila! And when your campmates ask to bum a light for the ten thousandth time, you can point them toward the pre-arranged flame.

Of course, make sure you've got a sturdy, reliable and portable ashtray for forays away from camp, but the truth is, after a day or so, you'll start shoving them into pockets and bags and anywhere safe - something you would probably never do at home with clothes you value - until you can get back to your camp trash.

And yes, bring more than you think you'll need. Between cig bummers, long days of little sleep, potential hours hunkered down during white-outs with nothing else to do, and the well-known effect of certain substances on one's desire to smoke more and MORE AND MOOOOORE - you'll go through them like you never thought possible, and be hurting when you run out early.

And to you anti-smoking zealots, thank you very much for minding your own business. I live in San Francisco and have to deal with the whining anti-tobacco nutjobs every day. I have worked for months and spent thousands of dollars to get to Burning Man, and I'm certainly not interested in your opinion of my personal habits.

When I used to smoke smoke (I give in when I'm drunk) I would hover around 3 on average a day up to 5-6 max, whenever I smoked 5-6 a day I felt so disgusting.

Anyways, you can roll your own menthols and if you want to roll them on the playa just get a roller so even if you're extremely drunk or just intoxicated on something else you can still roll a cig

I quit smoking in January and use a vaporizer now. A 50ml bottle of smoke juice costs me $14, lasts a month, and is equal to 4 cartons. An additional benefit, besided not having the other 4,000 chemicals in my lungs, is that I can use it anywhere. If you're driving in from California on I80 into Reno, right before you get into Reno there is a little Indian Smoke Shop right off the freeway. It's at the Verdi exit, at Gold Ranch. The Smoke Shop is across from a Taco Bell(Another good reason to stop) I forgot the name of the place, it's cheaper than most of the shops in Reno, definitely cheaper than the shops by Pyramid and in Wadsworth/Gerlach.

Since I have a bunch of smokers here, may I ask a question? My shade structure is no smoking because of my asthma. Outside, I just move downwind, but my playa home is smoke free. I don't mind asking nicely, but sometimes it seems as if a sign would be easier. Would it? Or would it be a challenge and get smoke in my face?

No one has ever been mean or rude, but some folks do stroll in lit up without thinking about it.

That's one of my pit stops along the way, you don't even have to get out of your car- it's got a drive thru. For some reason they were closed last year, may have closed early on Sunday.
