I sleep in my contacts (yes I have the night and day ones) and last year I only took them out once to clean the dust out after the little bit of wind we had tuesday evening.

I was also told before my first burn that you cant have sex because the dust will get all up inside and be painful, and in your ass crack, and it will make your skin bleed if you dont wear double socks and tall boots. They also said it was radio active. Some russian nuke was burried out there. We're all gone die horrible radio active deaths in a few years.

For those gearheads inclined in such things, NOAA has just upgraded the ENSO status to "El Nino Watch" with relevant SST hitting the 0.5C mark this month.

This all translates to a steady climb out of la Nina into a el nino cycle.

The Climate Predicition Center (CPC) has the following update that more or less tracks the voodoo I noted in February.

If bike riding does get really tough, i plan to load up on water, stretch my legs, and just hoof it out to the deep playa. is that feasible to do daily, or will i get exhausted?

In 2007 my bike died on Tues & I went on foot the rest of the week. I was able to make some visits on foot to the "inner deep playa", about as far out as the Temple & Homouroborus, but I was definitely out of water by the time I got back. I made my treks either early early morning, or as the sun was setting. There's a reason all those movies show people moving across the desert when the sun is down...

You can also aim in the opposite direction, towards Center Camp, and check in with the Artery to see if they've got any Art-Car tours going. They usually have a couple, and then you can ride out to the art in comfort and have a guide telling you what the artist was thinking...

It seems to depend on the brand. Same eyes, same prescription, same goggles... Most years I didn't have a problem with contacts at all, and then the next year I switched to AccuView2 "new and improved", as recommended by the eye doctor, and they totally sucked. They clouded up so bad one night I was literally blind, and my wife had to lead me back to put my old backup glasses on.

The more you have to deal with them, the more it's going to suck ass. Fortunately, this year, everything is going to suck ass.

The only time my contacts have really bothered me is during Exodus, when I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open anyway....

If any contact lens wearers are concerned about wrecking your eyes, check with your ophthalmologist...mine gave me some trial daily lenses (for free!) so I can put in a new pair every day.

I would like to apologize to my fellow villagers in advance for having what I will assume will be an epic cry and/or emotional crisis after the first apocalyptic dust storm. You should find a flask somewhere on my person. It contains rum. Make me drink it . Also prompting me to sing Queen songs might help as well.

I'm as prepared as I can be, but damn this shit is scary.
