My grandfather, back in the day when gas stations had outhouses, was at a station where the owner had rigged a speaker below the seat in the triple-door outhouse, with the mic behind the counter from where he could see the outhouse. The owner said "watch this" as two young ladies each entered. He waited a few moments and then picked up the mic and said "Hey. Would you mind waiting? I'm not done painting down here".

Yes, it is pretty cool! Got $20 worth of fun already from the first one, second one still in the box.

I haven't tried it yet on the washing machine box out in shed #4, but I expect it to sound "OK" as it does on most boxes.

It sounds frekkin AWESOME on an acoustic guitar, and sounds pretty damn good on a tissue box and on the exaust fan over the kitchen stove.

Been busy, will update again when I have more time to dink with them.

We already have dubstep for that.

They still make the large transducers.
Mostly used for seating where they will transmit directly through the body.

I've never tried them myself.

Speaker design is a very complex area.
Over 90% of my sound system is in the speakers themselves, and this is very appropriate.

Nothing wrong with a device like this as a novelty.

If you want to get serious about it, I suggest structural styrofoam as a cone surface.

I have a flat speaker made of styrofoam with an edge cut to allow some flexibility.
They used a metal piece in the center to produce some treble.

My largest bass drivers have a styrofoam backing for stiffness.


Efficiency is key for portable speakers, even more than normal use.
Looking for speakers for a walkman, I found a pair of non-powered speakers make in japan, that were actually louder than any of the amplified sets available at much higher cost, and they sounded better too.
All the rest were chinese made.

Dick, Leggs, Wheelgunner, and I were over at Pinemom & TITWI's house earlier this month. Dick had one of the egg shap transducer units. Piney and I had finished a tour of the backyard and were heading to the back door when Dick comes running out and slapped the transducer to my temple. Holy shit! That was one of thhe coolest things EVAR! It sounds like th music is right in yer head. He tried it on the dog. Doggie was not impressed.
