Suggest a meeting spot outside BM

Hi guys,

First time going to the festival. We're going to be travelling from Vegas, and meeting friend that we want to camp with who are coming from Vancouver.

Can some suggest a good place for us to meet? Would the town of Gerlach be the best option?

Also - is there cell phone reception in Gerlach?

The town of Gerlach would NOT be a good option being as that there is virtually no parking and loitering is strongly discouraged if not enforced by local authorities..

Maybe Pyramid Lake just a bit south or the gas station in Nixon...?

It's good to know that Gerlach isnt a good option. I really don't want to piss off the locals - those dudes shouldnt have hassle cause me and my buddy havent planned well!!

We're trying to time it so we arrive around the same time, but with him driving 16 hours and us 10 that's gonna be difficult, so we prob need somewhere that we can park up for a couple of hours while one of us waits.

Neither of us are in any way famliar with the area (first timers) so want an easy to find pre-determined spot.

Is there sufficient parking at the gas station? Would it be cool to pull up there for a couple of hours.

Yeah Gerlach is barely a "town".. it's really just a collection of buildings along the side of the highway and at that time it's chock full of traffic and people. Definitely a no go.

I'm trying to wrack my brain and remember a gas station in Nixon, but I always blow through it (Nixon, not my brain. Well.. maybe sometimes). The closest place past there that would definitely be ok to park at would be the Love's truck stop in Fernley.. but that's a ways south. Consult google maps for distance references.

If they know what you're driving, then find the first taco stand south of Gerlach.

If I had to wait for someone, that's where I'd wanna wait.

For your friends from the north this would be a pain in the ass.

But, there is always a preparty going on at the Walmart in Fernley, and they encourage loitering! As long as you buy SOMETHING.... aka ice.

the walmart in fernley idea is the best. the taco stand idea won't work cause you may get there at the 'first taco stand' not knowing a newer one was set up further down the road.

Maybe you should just stop and wait in Reno? Go downtown and play in the River for awhile? Or the Sparks Nugget if you are both traveling on 395 (you heading north, your friends heading south)

There's the small "bat" gas station in Empire, a good landmark but it may be too full as well. Most don't care as long as it's not TOO crowded or you're not taking up too much room. As always if the situation works for you and the owner is cool least you can do is spend a little money. Good luck!
