So this is how i deal with the inevitable OILY and fishy smelling mess:

handy wipes.

I wipe out the tin when I am done and place it in a zip lock baggy

Then I wipe the outside of the baggie, then my hands, then put the wipe in the baggy

Then I seal it up and put that in my larger moop bag

Finally, some hand sanitizer and a piece of gum.

Tada.

I carry a "man purse" with goggles, cup, absinthe, small bottle of water, camera, leatherman, EL wire in case of darkness, flashlight, compass and either wear or carry an extra shemagh in the bag.

I have tools, air pump and extra tube on my bike. This year, we have some kewl miniature bottles of chambord for gifting. So I'll probably have that instead of the bottle of water.

I haven't been on the playa yet, but when I'm on adventures or out on my bike, I stay prepared. On my bike I generally have a bike messenger bag (I used to be a NYC bike messenger) with a U-lock, 2 or 3 tubes, patch thing, Park emergency tire boot, Topeak Road Morph pump, front and rear blinking lights, shades with clear lenses, a 15mm wrench, Crank Brother M17 multi tool, two plastic tire levers, a red Moleskine notebook, an Austin and/or San Antonio bike map, maybe a street map (or a map of somewhere else) Dr. Grip pen (with black Pilot G-2 .38 ink), sometimes a steno or reporter notebook. I generally have at least one camera, sometimes two, maybe another lens and bag of film if applicable. I keep a camp towel and maybe a neck gator with me. If it's raining or I think it may rain, I have a rain jacket. Sometimes I have a Sigg bottle of water.

When not on my bike, I have a Camelbak Ambush or a Northface backpack with a name I can't remember. They both have the over-built military 3l bladders. They're packed the same, except no bike stuff. The Camelbak gets even less stuff, but they both have Powerbars or something similar.

As far as tools mentioned, I carry both a Leatherman Skeletool CX and a Wenger Swiss Army something or other. It has just a few tools, but a long locking blade and saw. It's also grey. Sometimes for fun it's just the Leatherman and a Gerber locking knife thing.

Ashtray- gonna upgrade this year had a coupon for a free 'camel snus' plan to throw away the chewing tobacco and keep the tin.

Goggles
Face dust protection, scarf or piece of cloth, or little painters mask.
Sturdy little VERY SIMPLE plastic cup with a lid. Every 'sippy cup' or not simple cup I've tried eventually gets screwed up.
Multi tool, think the one I have no is a Gerber.

But most importantly,
Either a bottle or two of champagne
or 4 to 6 beers
and some sort of pre-mixed drink. Typically a electrolyte drink mixed with liquor, with the lid twisted tight back on.

My backpack is decorated with el wire so if sunset sneaks up on me and I'm caught out and about in the dark, I'm not a total darkwad.

My kid has a back pack that's extra lite..

It's just a tote bag with draw string.. The draw string go's through the top and down to the bottom corners.. It would be light enough to have nylon wind breaker and still be comfortable enough to dance while on.. Might have to add a clip in the front if moving around fast..

That nice lady is a local Gerlachian that I met many years back. I think she was 88 years old when she came to the M&G so I guess she would be about 90 now. Ever since I can remember she has been out to the playa. The woman is a true legend as she was a professional wrestler back in the day. Last year during the World Naked Bike Ride, I saw her coming directly toward us in her SUV and had to yell at her to put her car in park so she didn't kill someone. She really wasn't planning on stopping for us!
She is truly a very generous lady who cooks up fried chicken and feeds our camp every year, and you can find her in Gerlach on the way out passing out watermelon slices to anyone who wants one. She truly embodies the spirit of Burning Man.

2 Altoid tins fit nicely in a standard issue first aid pouch.

Pretty simple but I've never needed anything else. This year I may carry a little notepad. It's getting a lot easier to stay in touch with people.

Cool cups, jcliff! I've seen similar in truckstops, in the shotglass section. Way overpriced compared to the great deal you found. Nice.
