1 Ticket Wanted $240 or Gifted

Postby franfinsf » Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:05 pm

Hi, I need to buy a ticket in order to get to my first burn...to join my boyfriend whose ticket is assured by the project he's crewing on for BM: burnwallstreet.net. Can someone sell me a ticket at $240 face value or gift one to me? Been out of work 6 months. Virgin burner from San Francisco would be so very appreciative! Thanks in advance. BTW, I tried to get tix in the lottery and no luck and will try again on August 3 but surely there's a generous Burner out there who can help me before then!

Are you really asking to be gifted a ticket? Maybe you should spend the week of burningman looking for a job....

My goodness, I was expecting somewhat of a welcoming community. I guess Burning Man is going to be a gigantic letdown if these first few replies to my post are any indication. Way to go, not!

We welcome on the playa.

Out here we give freeloaders a bunch of sh*t, so that they don't get to the playa and try and suck us dry with their radical self-entitlement and henious unpreparedness. It's hard not having a job. I know. When I didn't have a job, I didn't go to the playa, period.

Thanks for the few supportive posts. BWS does not have any extra tickets. But I appreciate that suggestion. And for the suggestion that I spend BM week looking for a job, well, I've been looking 6-8 hours daily for 6 months, thank you! I hope when all is said and done, the positive Burners will prevail in my personal experience, whether or not I personally get to attend.

If not getting everything you want free from total strangers is a gigantic letdown, then yes, the Burn itself will disappoint you, and no one on here is going to chase after you to prove otherwise.

Stuff you are likely to get for free out there: Hugs. Smiles. Snacks. Drinks. Adventures. Dust. Exhaustion. Storms. Stories. Adventures. Sunburn. Ripped cuticles. 16 oz. friendships. Certain kinds of medical care. And a semi-endless parade of nudist cowboys on bicycles.

Stuff you are unlikely to get: Regular sleep. Or $240 worth of anything from one person.

If anyone has told you otherwise, they have unwisely encouraged some unrealistic expectations within you. (You might be a little pissed at them for 10 minutes, but after that, it's on you to correct your impression.)

Thanks for your post Savannah. I don't "expect" much other than some civility on a board like this that I thought might be representative of what Burning Man is rumored to be about. I have offered to pay for a face value ticket besides requesting one gifted. Just asking, not begging. I just don't enjoy the snarky remarks. If I get to the real event I have no doubt it will be interesting. And if I don't get there, well, I don't. If folks on this board feel compelled to post things like "shut up hippie" I feel sorry for them. That's what being a Burner is??? Telling a newcomer to shut up??? Such a shame.

Eplaya is not the same as the playa. In fact it might be even a bit harsher at times.

I'm sure that is a gross exaggeration. Regardless, it's evidence enough that dropping a sizable chunk of money--that couldn't even be allocated to being willing to pay for a non-discounted ticket--on a vacation to Burning Man is really beyond your financial means at this time in your life.

I know, it's so elitist to expect people to pay their own way, but sorry, I don't believe in the "this small discount/margin is the difference between going and not going" story.

Also, the "shut up hippie" is mostly just a joke response to people who sound like hippies (e.g. freeloading requests, whining about their 'online rights' being violated, being too sensitive, etc.). If you had actually read and participated in this forum before posting your beg-a-thon ticket request, maybe you wouldn't feel so offended by it.

You are offering the lowest amount of any face value ticket available which there were only several thousand of, most people paid over $400 (includes free s&h)! If your boyfriend is working with bws and you are not working, then why didnt you volunteer with Otto? Then they might have found a ticket for you. Instead you are mad at people who are saying you are just looking for a handout, which you are! Did you try for low income tickets? Probly not huh?? I know lots of folk who were trying to get those.... Plus plenty of people in step just waiting..... Sorry I only got one ticket and my one of my cash gifts went to the bws project so nothing left for you. Stay home and find a job, the cheapest part of going is the ticket anyways!

Yes, Fresh, I agree. I drive about 7,000 miles by the time I get back here after the burn. Along with everything it takes to "camp in the desert for a week", the trip is expensive. I tell the people that ask me how much is a ticket, I tell them "the thing costs about $4,000". Truth. Minimum. I paid $420 for my ticket. I work hard. Sometimes, for grins, I go out and look for extra work. I always come home with more money in my pocket than I left with, always. If they say next year all the tickets will all be a grand, flat....fine, just sell me one and let me get on with the preparation.

Oh, and shut up, hippy.

That was exactly what I told my boss it was going to cost me the other day, about $4k. Not driving as far, only 2k, but the sucking sounds when I'm checking out at the online store, or at the thrift, or that giant big box, it just does not stop. but I love it. Besides over $300 spread out over various kickstarters and donations to other random projects.
