Stapled Tickets.....?... REALLY ?

Perhaps I am being a bit frustrated from the general disaster that the ticket buying, and particularly, shipping experience has been. OK, I know we bought the tickets at the most expensive level, $420.00. AND BMORG has had the 1.68 MILLION dollars since November from the first round of ticket buying, AND no information to anyone except some general misinformation and silence.... AND apparently no systematic way to shipping tickets... First Bought Shipped First? NOPE, Alphabetical by City... NOPE... Alphabetical by buyers name,.... NOPE... "Will be sent by middle of June"... NOPE.....

OK, Growing pains, shipping issues, computer problems... I can forgive all that...

BUT......

When I got my tickets today THEY WERE STAPLED! WTF?

STAPLES thru 420 dollar art work?

and not just on the edge, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ART!

They are even damaged by how hard the stapler was hit, and marks almost all the way thru the ticket.. a tear?

Who is running that? A total disrespect of the artist who made the ticket design, a complete disregard for folks who buy an EXTRA TICKET just to frame it as art.... What ever happened to SIMPLE RESPECT ... it's not a 20 dollar web printed ticket... but $420 dollars of ART...

Do I have to worry now that there are holes in the ticket the crazy gate people wont say they are fakes? How about just the problems of passing them to fiends as gifts WITH HOLES IN THEM!

I just simply cant believe that an ART organization would do this. The value of DO NO HARM was obviously forgotten with this whole process, ...

It is more about disrespect of the artwork and the value that everyone on this blog would put on those tickets. Some folks save FOR YEARS to be able to go to BRC> waiting at home for the postman everyday, just like me, to be sure not to miss getting them; maybe even the joy at finding that PERFECT BEAUTY of the ticket art for the first time....

This was for me, my first year, and even now years and years later a very important part of the experience. Looking at the ticket with a magnifying glass, trying to find all the little details in the tiny printing and find surprises ( like in 2010 the tiny "25" hidden in the lines.) I know folks who carry their ticket to bed each night because it MEANS SO MUCH!

Does BMORG value the tickets so little they would allow this?

Next year I want an email telling me that there will be staples, and I want it by President's Day! And don't give me any of that, well, it makes sure that it stays in the envelope bull, either! I want them super-glued in there instead!

Did anyone else ever get an Atomic Fire Ball in their ticket envelope. Totally fucked up the smell of the ticket...I was pissed.

I also used to get my tickets from a retail vintage clothing store. Whole damn place smell like incensce. I had to Fabreze the ticket every year to get over the smell of Nag Champa.

It depends on how much you value something. If you are working to collect art, and to bring that thru time into the future, a future perhaps without burning man at all. It's about trying to preserve a bit of history, society and culture . I guess you could just put a nail thru the middle of a Van Gogh and call it a day then... right?

Everything we know about the past is because people took the time to value the ephemera. the club posters, the newspaper articles, the mass produced "The Twelve Caesars" by Suetonius... from which we know about Julius Caesar and his death, and the height of Roman Society and culture and intrigue... of which one or two copies survived to be found...

I'm not foolish to think that a burning man ticket is on par with a great work such as VanGogh or Suetonius..., but it IS important to value the moment. To find the history that, years later, people will look to and remember ...

As an artist myself, I really don't understand your derision. I AM buying art... Just because it was mass printed, how many intact tickets do you think are around now from past years? Every Year we have gone they get torn at the gate, you have nothing left. SO once the event is over it IS a valuable piece of Print Arts.

VanGogh was an unknown and street artist, a bohemian, when he was painting. If he did not have his support from patrons who saw value in his art when he was a nobody, we would not have any of his art now. Not just his painting but his drawings, his sketches, he did a lot more than just put paint on canvas.

Our first year, we took the staple out and took them off the paper.... Then realized, "shit, these things are small pieces of paper. We have to hold on to them for another 3 months....." and stapled them back to the packing list. Then re-stapled the envelope shut.

I have not once, arrived at greeters with my tickets not attached to the packing list.

When my greeting shift comes around, I am going to take the extra time to review tickets for staple marks. Any sight of damage and the bell gong is going to be used for extracurricular activities.

Did you know that if you take the staple out by carefully unbending it, you can rebend it into a little frog shape? And then you can make the froggie hop by pressing down on it just so with your fingernail! OMG SO MUCH FUN.
