Here are some thoughts on what to do next:
1. Offer a way to cancel awarded tickets NOW and make them available for the next sale. Not everyone will take the time and effort to trade/swap their tickets in the Burning Man System.
2. For the next General Sale - scrap the idea of the General Sale! Instead,
First, award a certain number tickets to large theme camps. This should ensure that the theme camps can be staffed.
Second, lottery the rest to "not-awarded" registrations. This will give the original registrants another chance of obtaining tickets and prevent more scalpers from trying to get these tickets.
Although it may be late for this year, I still think "names on tickets" is the way to go. Airlines do it and get multitudes of people through the gates. It's the only way to make sure the tickets make it to participants and prevent the mayhem of this year's lottery.
