So people are still being unscrupulous about tickets, camps are scrambling to keep members together.... perhaps something simpler is order.


Multiple windows of opportunity to purchase an allotted number of tickets, limited to 2 per. Have the windows at various times for various time zones so the die-hards can schedule buying opportunities.

I'm just saying, this will make it harder for scalpers to amass multiple tickets and the ones who really really want to go can snipe a ticket on one of the multiple buying windows.

We did get tickets. (My wife and I both) This is our 4th year and I have to say I'm disappointed by the scalping that's going on. I definitely think there should be a way to give preference to people that are veteran burners, possibly allowing people to sign up while at the event by placing a deposit on tickets for the next year. Otherwise scalpers are going to profit while the people that actually create the event suffer. That goes totally against the concept of the burn and really seems to add some negative energy in my opinion. I feel lucky that we got tickets. I had thought maybe we wouldn't go but now I'm glad we committed. If we hadn't gotten tickets we wouldn't have sold a kidney to get them.

Scalped tickets already available at 2x or more face value at this point in the game is just WRONG and is disheartening in a big way.

Those tickets you are seeing on the OP's title have been on sale for months and months.

The starting price was twice that of the middle tier back on November, I suspect they have a higher price now.

Its January, they burn is in August. I doubt that 75% of the tickets are in scalper hands.

Some basic math: 40,000 tickets. maybe 25,000 people signing up for 2 tickets and 15,000 people signing up for 1 ... 75000 > 40000.

Yes it sucks. Stressful, absolutely. Reason to panic, not really. I suspect that 1/3 of the tickets sold were not actually needed buy the purchaser. So, therefore about 13000 tickets could show up in STEP. I also believe that maybe 2-3% of the total tickets sold will go to scalpers (thats around 1600 tickets). Not a large number when compared to the whole. It would be cool if all the scalpers failed to sell there tickets.

I am not saying that everyone who wishes to attend will get a ticket, since clearly there are more people than the BLM will allow. But most of them will. Yes, Burning Man might be different than in the past... is that really a BAD thing??

No way the number you can get from other camps is 25 to 30% of the people got tickets with 70 to 75 % not getting tickets.These are hard numbers for BM.org to accept.But its not just stub hub its everywhere.I would put the scalpers number at 12,000 to 15,000 tickets But my dear john letter said not all is lost we still have a sale for 10,000 tickets on March 28 in which the scalpers ticket bots will take most of them too.So sad with some very wicked smart people we have in our community we can and will come up with a better way.Thats if BM.org lets them

Those are not hard numbers- those are the numbers put up by the people who bother to put them up. We have no way of knowing what percentage of people who actually won tickets in the lottery have posted about it- either here or on fb. It's all conjecture based on what has happened to specific camps.

However- you are correct in that there are lots (and lots) of camps that didn't get as big a percentage of their campers tickets as they had hoped. The flip side is that there are still roughly 43,000 people with tickets now, and without knowing who each & every one of those people are there is no way to estimate the number of scalpers. I would guess a low number- why would it be easier for them than for camp members in a random draw?

I love how about 100-150 tickets on StubHub & other sites suddenly become 12-15,000. You also have to realize that none of those are physical tickets- they're a promise to get a ticket (whether they say so or not. The LLC won't release physical tickets until June). I would bet the vast majority of those for sale don't even have a ticket or confirmation number, they're just hoping for suckers.

They are keeping very quiet. No one wants to stand up and say they have extra tickets after all the stuff written here, and I'm sure, facebook. I'd be discrete if I had any extra. Heck, I might even create a second eplaya account if I were going to sell it/them in the STEP.

Our camp's idea is that the Org should aim for the most expensive tickets, try to find out who ordered them originally, and then CANCEL THE SALE FOR THAT MOTHERFUCKER so they never actually have a ticket to sell. If they keep chopping off whoever has the most expensive tickets, the rest of the scalpers will try to underbid the next guy so they don't get targeted.

The money my campers COULD use to buy scalped tickets would otherwise go to alcohol, root beer, public camp furniture to entertain people's asses. Come sit in our shade, meet new friends and enjoy root beer and absinthe beverages. Unless you bought a scalped ticket, in which case, you're not a Burner, you're not welcome in our camp and unless you like to be publicly humiliated you don't want to identify yourself in front of us.

Camps: I encourage you to ask people how they got a ticket, and if they say they got it from a scalper, kick them out. They can still enjoy Center Camp and The Man.

For what it's worth, the transaction history for sale of 'GA' tickets for burningman on StubHub. I had to go through the steps of selling tickets and put down GA as the section in order to see this, so not sure if there were more sold under a different 'section'. Comes out to over 100 tickets in just a couple of days. Surely more will follow, hoarders will only post more tickets once they sell some, that is how they are flying under the radar of 'there is only 80 tickets available' excuse from some. BTW, StubHub will allow posting and selling of tickets without physical holding of tickets, asking the expected date of holding tickets.

As far as selling on StubHub for face value, are you going to add the 20% that SH will take off from the seller or suck up the loss, and will you lower the price 10% for the buyer's fee?? Knock it off 30% and the buyer pays face.... F*#% the scalpers

So, someone's supposed to pay $700 a ticket and not know for SURE whether they got a ticket until 7 days before the event?? THAT's genius.

really though, there are only what, 70 scalped tickets on there currently, and that's NOT very many considering how many were sold. I DO expect we'll see a TON more show up by june though...
