we never heard about how many tickets were even sold in total until this year. in the past it was just "AS SUPPLIES LAST" for the final tier.//
the numbers that are released to media about population are average numbers of people onsite at certain times.. so we dont even know how many people actually attended overall.. there could have been 70,000 tickets sold in 2011 and we had an average of 51,000 onsite when LLC reported the numbers to the BLM at their daily briefing ..
the fact is that ..there just isnt enough info to even really speculate... even with confirmation by an LLC board member that about 1/3 of theme camps/art crews have tickets.... there really isnt enough info to say who has tickets or how many people wanted..
right now the only real numbers we have from the LLC are that on average 1.7 tickets were requested, also, an LLC Board Member apparently confirmed that 1/3 of the people in theme camp groups and art crews have received tickets..(edit: and there have been 43,000 tickets sold.. out of 57,000 available)
there isnt enough info to know anything from that scanty amount of numbers, nothing of any value...
and even if we DID have the exact figures from the LLC itself, of what use are they?
Will it make it any less painful to those who are upset to know that it was an influx of 20,000 new-comers or 20,000 scalpers or 20,000 tickets 'hoarded' ???
All we know is that more people want to go to burning man than there are tickets available.. This limit is imposed by the BLM and the permit Black Rock City LLC relies on for the event to keep on going requires that they make an effort to not exceed these limits...
The only real argument that seems could be happening right now is whether or not Theme Camps/Art Crews/and "REAL BURNERS" should get preferential treatment over newcomers who decided to come for the first time this year, for whatever reason..
