Following the wiring diagram systematically cleaning contacts, inspecting for proper function and looking for anything broken or loose is how I would start.
The first resistor circuit gets the most use so I'm thinking something has worn out, become dirty or slipped out of tolerance. Maybe a broken resistor coil.
