Jerky Golf Cart: Need Help

My husband and I just bought a 77 ezgo golf cart. I am pregnant and we are bringing our son this year, so we thought a golf cart art car would be a good idea this year for sure. It runs great, charges great but has a very jerky start to it. I could use some help in two ways. 1, where to start looking for the problem. 2 what is a MCOR device and does it have anything to do with the problem. Would love a few ideas on where to start my husband looking for a problem.

Check that the solenoid is open at rest, microswitch on accelerator linkage is open at rest, nothing between the speed control contacts and that all the resistor coils are isolated from one another. Your problem is most likely somewhere between the microswitch and the resistor coils, let me know how it goes...

A google search of the symptoms that the cart exhibits will take you to a golf cart forum. Spending a little time running through the various responses on various sites should yield the exact answer you are looking for.

Here is a wiring diagram that I think is for your vintage of golf cart.

Following the wiring diagram systematically cleaning contacts, inspecting for proper function and looking for anything broken or loose is how I would start.

The first resistor circuit gets the most use so I'm thinking something has worn out, become dirty or slipped out of tolerance. Maybe a broken resistor coil.
