Electric scooter recommendations?

Friend of mine, a first-timer this year, has developed some issues such that she may not be able to walk or bicycle much. An electric scooter would solve her problem. Has anyone experience enough to make a recommendation? Thanks.

Balancing on a scooter on rough terrain interspersed with dunes seems like much more of a jarring effort than walking or biking. Plus, all the working parts are no more than six inches off the ground, so they'd continually get buried in the dunes. Try searching for threads on powered bicycles & tricycles.

Are the issues bad enough for her to get issued at least a temporary handicap permit? If so, she still has time to register for a disabled vehicle license from the DMV. Cut off is July 31st.

If a handicap placard is not available and she can manage bike riding (or at least sitting on a bike), this is the cheapest, ready to go option that does not need any DMV approval:

I have one of these and it has been out to the playa for the past 2 years. You'll need a power source for charging the battery pack. I found mine in a local store on clearance for $300.

I just realized that the game leg might not support standing on a scooter, or having to put a foot out when stopping a bicycle. She will need an electric tricycle. May invest in one and then playa it up as time allows. I've never used an electric bi or tricycle and wonder how necessary it is to do any pedaling. Charging won't be a problem.

Sucks to become a semi-invalid for the first time in one's life shortly before a first trip to Burning Man ....

This was the cheapest I found.

The tires are a little narrow, so I would have a shop put on some 2.125 rims. (The size I have with no problems)

As long as you have power to recharge, this should work.

Um. I'm just going to be radical here and suggest that it sucks to become an invalid, semi or completely, at any time in your life...

This looks really good. Trouble is the most easily found website sells it for $299 yet seems to have a semi-broken website (i.e. accepted PayPal without taking my info, then rejected PayPal without giving me an alternative), while everywhere else it sells for upwards of $1900. I wonder how much time I'll lose waiting for that to sort out ...

The real question is why this board doesn't enable them by default...

Electric trikes come up on craigs list quite a bit. ($300 to $600)

That's where I got mine.

With a disability permit, you can use an electric bike, rather than assisted.
You need more battery capacity.

You need adequate power for conditions and gearing.

Wider tires are your friend.
