Money for gas for rideshare?

Postby tattoogoddess » Mon Mar 12, 2012 7:12 pm

Hey just wondering from past burners. What would be a far amount to give someone for gas money to and from? Gas is going to be about $5 a gallon by then. Just trying to do my budget to get an idea of how much I need to raise and put into savings in the next 5 months.

It's going to depend on route and mileage of the vehicle, laden. I tend to think that it's normal to split the gas 50/50. My advice is to do it every time you get gas, rather than one on the way out and the other on the way back.

OH yeah. For that have fifty ready. Twenty or thirty seems fairer, but better to overestimate than underestimate. There's a chance that they won't accept it, but don't count on that.

Budget for that. If you end up with too much then that's a nice helper to get you back home

depends on what the ride is...50mpg Prius, or 6 mpg motorhome or truck.. Probably 150 miles each way. depends on how long you are in line, 1/2hour or 8 hours

That is true. I mean I think more then that for a RV would be right. But i guess $50 each way is a bit high if we did not wait in line but if we did it would be good.

Giving this a nudge over to Transportation. And +1 to EspressoDude's comment - the fuel economy of the vehicle, how heavy a load it's got, and time spent in line could make a big difference in how much gas you go through.

In your discussions with your rideshare, he/she will have claimed "no problem" in sharing gas costs.

Therefore, pick up your ride with an almost empty tank. Make the deal that they pay both at the nearest station and at Gerlach, and that you will pay for the gas back home.

Simple and fair.
