*This theme sucks so hard it created a quantum singularity and pulled itself out of our dimension, ergo it does not exist and as far as I'm concerned there is no theme this year.

It certainly isn't sparking any creativity in me, except to say thank god we got all that fixed and don't have to worry about how freaking fertile we are anymore.

I have always found themes to be a very loose thing to create for on the playa. Most are ignored for the most part and people do funky things that they like. I have an idea; make your own theme and do art that surrounds that. Who would really know?

I just hope a number of artists work around the concept as something greater than just human fertility. Soil can be fertile, a phoenix's ashes are fertile, self-replicating machines are fertile in their own way,, etc. I think it'd be more interesting to see the "2.0" aspect of it inspire people to explore alternatives to human fertility, as opposed to "we're re-using this theme"

Playa Events didn't open last year until June 16th.

Personally I think this is the worst theme I have seen. It was bad the first time, now its just lame.

I was really hoping this year with the conversation to a nonprofit they might do something radical like let us nominate and vote for a theme.

I'm reserving public comment until we actually get the official announcement and post. I've been told that will be very soon, but I've heard that enough times over the last few months that I know to take that with a big grain of salt.

@veleda - the event is still owned and managed by the LLC. It will be some time before the Burning Man Project gets the keys, so to speak. It would also be a mistake to assume that non-profit status somehow makes it any more or less of a crowd-sourced democracy.

Well, it's on the main page now, I guess it's official. Larry's theme essay is pretty half-hearted, in my opinion, he usually knocks it out of the park and crystallizes the theme pretty well. He even mentioned that artwork doesn't have to be theme-related. This is nitpicking, I know, but on top of everything else, boy, it sure seems like he's ready to hit the eject button and our little party in the desert is in for more major changes. I'm sure it will all work out in the end, it always does, what happens is meant to be simply because it happened. At any rate, it feels like ramp-up time, let's go.
