When do Early Entry Passes get Distributed?

I've checked around the forums and the FAQ, and I didn't see it in my placement confirmation email. Would rather not pester my placement guy. Does anyone know when the early entry passes will be distributed? If I recall correctly, they're either barcodes or some numerical code and each member of the camp that arrives early will need on in-hand, correct?

And yes, they are a barcode. Your camp can distribute them among the members. Each barcode gets scanned and can only be used once (obviously).

I had an email exchange with my placement dude and asked for our number to be increased and got a thumbs up. I'm guessing if you got placed you will get the number your requested.

They're really good about accommodating placed camps, but prefer that you only ask for passes for people you need to be there to help setup camp/art, not just to hang out.

And don't forget kids, sometimes after you get out there the Early pass barcode doesn't work at the gate!!!!!!

You should of been told when the first placement email came stating you were placed. At least thats how it worked with our camp.

Your theme camp coordinator should have specified the number you were requesting in the placement questionnaire several months ago. When placement was announced, your placer most likely also confirmed whether or not you would be granted early arrival and if so how many. Have your coordinator re-read the placement email. Carefully. If nothing was in there, he or she should contact your placer.

ok, ok, so we have our EA's, but 3 of our build crew is on Will Call, so they can not get their Will Call tickets until Noon on August 22?

I guess they will have to hang out there while the others go in from the long drive, cause they plan on arriving really early on Wednesday. It takes us 5 days to build that camp and MV. I hope the weather holds, but if not, it's BURNING MAN!!!!! woohoo!!!!!!!!!

Apparently, I'm a negative/angry/piece of dog shit/sad loser/no friends/begging for campers (wha?) for my pathetic miserable camp for calling this guy out. He also asked my not to contact him again...which is pretty funny, considering the pleasantries summarized above what he contacted me for.

Sigh. Can't we put these jerks on blast? I'm assuming he was a NARC or something, and there's no way we'd jeopardize early entry access for the hard-working people who actually help us set-up over this guy!

Per email from Placement on July 24:

EARLY ARRIVAL CHANGES FOR 2012

Soon, you will receive early arrival passes via email, but instead of those pesky PDF attachments, you will receive a unique web link address for each of your passes. You may distribute the passes after you have printed them, or you may simply distribute the link addresses for printing by your recipients. But don't distribute multiple copies of the same pass! Once a pass is scanned at the Gate, it is no longer good.

They really discourage theme camp members from entering any earlier than Wednesday at NOON. The Good Reverend Bloodshot tells me all the basic services will just be getting settled on that day.

Just want to say Props to Shaman for his snark on the EA "helper" trolls.

Every year they start pounding on my door..not part of camp.. noone knows them.. but ya they want to come early and help build.. and can we send them an EA pass.. one time I gave in after they said all sorts of awesome things about their build skills... I was like..maybe this is the way they want to contribute.. NEVER SAW THEM.

We are very weary with EA pass requests even within our camp... as we've had friends and friends of friends show up and do little. Everyone now has to be recommended by someone who is a 'tried and true' build crew member.

It's worth pointing out that buying, selling, trading, or gifting early arrival passes (especially to people who are not a part of your camp or project) is not allowed. Placement has been known to come down hard on the camps they catch playing games, so please distribute them carefully.

We need to apologize and tell you that our first transmission of early arrival passes have all been voided!

Although we pre-tested the process, we heard from so many camps who struggled, especially on the Windows platform,
with the links and experienced empty downloads. For this reason and to enhance security, we have voided all the passes
that have gone out. We wanted to tell you now to stop distributing what you were able to download, and stand by for your
new set of replacement passes.

On Windows machines the program 7zip at http://www.7-zip.org/ seems to work expanded these compressed files.
Look for additional tips in the email accompanying your replacement passes.

I know it's cutting it really close but we weren't sure of exactly how many we needed to set up the camp in time until recently. I already emailed my placer a couple times but no reply and I'm slightly worried because most of us early goers are car pooling and it's crucial that we get enough. :-/.

Yes, I think it is too late to be making early arrival requests. Ideally of course you want to put a realistic number on your questionnaire before you hit the submit button. If it's a reasonable request, placement tries to help camps out but those requests need to be in shortly after your placement is announced. It's an adventure in logistics!
