Imagine, it's 8am, you're dusty, miles from your camp, parched and hankering for a slice of freshness... juicy watermelon, tangy plums, a crunchy carrot or a sweet cob of corn; where do you turn when your cooler looks like slush and your body is burning for a vitamin hit?
The Black Rock City Farmers Market of course
!Everybody loves a stroll through their local farmers’ market, right? Imagine having your very own market spring up, like a mirage, filled with cold, fresh produce, right in the middle of the unforgiving, hot and dusty Nevadan desert. Well, now More Carrot camp wants to bring MORE juicy fresh fruit and veg to MORE hungry Black Rock City desert survivors.More Carrot
camp, a transcontinental venture run by a bunch of Australians, American and Europeans, launched the Black Rock City Farmers Market
at Burning Man 2010, motivated by that year’s theme Metropolis, Life of Cities. In thinking about what we appreciated in cities we felt a shared passion for connecting the country to the city in the form of locally-grown, high-quality produce, such as that provided by farmers markets.
Since then, the Black Rock City Farmers Market
has become an integral piece of the Black Rock City fabric, and we’re raising funds to make it JUICIER and FRESHER in 2012. We want to procure a more advanced cooling system to keep our produce crisper, longer, a pedal-powered smoothie-maker (icy cold cocktail anyone?), and a brand new bicycle trailer for our on-playa deliveries.
We source the majority of our produce in Reno, purchasing organic whenever we can; supporting local agriculture is high priority, but it can be a costly undertaking! With your assistance we can expand our operation in 2012 to share glorious fruit and vegetables with more residents of Black Rock City.
We are also looking for circus performers (jugglers, stilt walkers, magicians, etc) to entertain at the Farmers Market. And if you are a produce camp (bakery, tea room, etc) or just have some yummy edibles to gift, we invite you to come and be part of the Farmers Market!
