Kites and Tethered Aviation / Art
If anyone has done notable kite work or tethered flying art work, I would be interested in talking to them. I would be curious about any environmental or logistical issues that may not be apparent.
- I am aware of the winds from 0 – 40MPH. That does not bother me. No wind is often easier than high wind. High wind provides its own opportunities.
I would be curious if there was any notable wind pattern, such as night winds, or mid-day shifts to look for. (The wind often follows the sun…)
- I am aware of the dust, and I am curious as to its properties and abrasiveness / salt content.
As well, if the dust has a notable impact on certain fabrics, carbon fiber or the like, that might be useful. Not a big deal, but some things can be accommodated to minimize the inherent self destruction of my work.
I have some ideas. I suspect they have appeared in BRC before. But as I begin to design and build, I would like to be as far ahead of the curve as possible. I appreciate that whatever will be will be, and nothing my go as planned, but I just assume do the best I can.
I am somewhat retentive on many things, and I appreciate I am going to a place where that does not work well. But I am also capable of spending hundreds of hours on a piece to see it live only for minutes, and have gloriously done so a few times. Sometimes you build it and watch it fly, then you watch it fly away and that is the way of things.
See you on the playa.
