How to make the Man symbol and a tie-dyed shirt. Help please

I know it can be done because ive seen other burners with it in the past. Im looking for help on this technique to make a shirt for my twin brother. We are going to the Lunar Burn on the day of our birthday this year and I feel like that would be the perfect gift to give him since I made it myself and we are celebrating both our love for Burning Man . Can anyone give me tips??

I would BUY a tie dyed t-shirt they have vibrant colors and I would 'make the man' on it with a bleach pen or bleach on a tiny q-tip. then you can accent or outline the man with a sharpie or other permanent marker, paint, ink. Keep it simple and be proud of your creation and ingenuity.

A technique for symbols is to baste in whatever symbol you want, then pull the thread so the material bunches up. Using a squeeze bottle squeeze dye onto the bunched up areas. Depending on what kind of dye you use, let sit for however long the instructions say. Then if your dye requires heat setting, run the t-shirt through the dryer or iron on high. Again, depends on the dye. Once that is set, you can tie dye the shirt in any old way you want.

Or simply use a fabric marker and draw your man symbol, heat set. Then tie dye. There are tie dyeing kits available at most craft stores with some pretty good instructions. Dharma Trading is a great on line resource, and they have some fabulous beginners kits.

For just one or two shirts, most of the big box craft stores (joanns, michaels) have adequate tie-dye kits.

Ok, here's an idea for you that may or may not be a good one.

Buy a pre made tie dyed shirt, then print a logo on transfer paper and iron it on the shirt. It will take about 10 minutes a shirt to make. If it works easy and cheaply enough, you can make a few extras to gift!

Create the image on the shirt with beeswax and dye ... might be an approach you'd consider.
