I plan to print a dozen of unique shirt, probably with a simple desing (mono or bicolor) on a good quality shirt (like in several years)

As a first time burner who is taking the self-reliance thing a bit seriously, I'm terrified of not having the stuff I need. So this year I'm taking everything that you would normally put in a backpack, except stuffed in all the little pockets on a military mesh tactical vest. Goggles, boots, camelback, shemagh, some blinkies, and probably loose khaki for the rest. I figure my first year's goal should be to get through the week without turning into a Sparkle Pony. Then next year (if I should be so lucky) I'll use my experience to dial back the loadout and pay more attention to style.

Good plan. There are also a number of camps out there that will dress you, should you need some sartorial self-expression once you get out there.

You could also bring a fun accessory that doesn't take up a lot of space. A daft hat, a scarf, a vest.

For the poster about custom t-shirts, I used unionshirts.com. There was a bit of a price advantage over zazzle.

I tend to buy a lot of random clothes from shopgoodwill.com and other accessories. I recently bought a pair of size 12 women's leather parts for $5, cut open the side seams and inserted leather fringe. Also I used velcro-backed sound activated heart-shaped light panels on the ass (one on each cheek) and wired the battery packs to the pockets. So the hearts light up to the bass beat whenever close to music.

Also I re-visited some sewing skills and fabricated a faux alligator motor cycle jacket embellished with military-esque insignia and wired up with EL wire that can be constant on or flashing sequence. I hate being cold at night so I lined it with fleece. It's nice to be able to make something that looks good, but it also has to function and be comfortable. Probabably my motorcycle jacket isn't sewn very well but it fits like a glove and it will definitely keep me warm and lit up.

I also have a Japanese school girl outfit for daywear.

I agree you've got to find what feels right to you but if you're looking for some fun ideas on dressing up, here's some styles I've noticed. I know're regarded as cliches but the original poster asked for suggestions so throwing it out there. I do think guys find it harder than girls sometimes so it's nice to help out

- Guys mini / utility kilts - if you get a mini you can wear it during the day when it's hot and put leggings on at night when it's cold.

- Some guys get into wearing tutus
- Get a faux fur coat for night time. Check your local thrift stores, Ebay or check the BM resources list for Burners who design and sell them (if you do this, be sure to price check quite a few, I've seen ridiculously expensive coats for sale). If you do decide to buy one, order it soon as many companies stop taking orders a few weeks prior to BM.

You can also google Playa wear, Burning Man wear and see what people are selling to get some ideas. Also check out some Youtube videos and photos from BM to get inspired, you'll see lots of different styles.

These are just ideas. You don't need to go out and spend a fortune either. Check out your local thrift stores and look for some funky gear you can put together in your own style. You can buy an old waistcoat and add studs to it, buy a belt and some tule (at a fabric store) and make your own tutu. Get an old singlet top or t-shirt and slash it up.

In Madras, the city from where plaids orginated into fashion, plaid wrap ons are very common.
Traditional madras men wear dohtis. South Indian dohtis are cotton, white wrap ons. They are super comfortable. My husband is going to bring some of these.

Have you considered joining 'Gate'? Just add a skull and cross bones and you're there. Sweet! You have plenty of pockets for lip gloss, glow sticks and travel size sunscreen.
