In Madras, the city from where plaids orginated into fashion, plaid wrap ons are very common.
Traditional madras men wear dohtis. South Indian dohtis are cotton, white wrap ons. They are super comfortable. My husband is going to bring some of these.

wrong madras...think orange juice, cranberry juice, vodka, and Hyannisport.

Are you saying that Madras came before Tartans?
If it happened individually on two different continents it must be good!

Looks like you'd over-heat in that outfit. Burning Man is in the desert you know.
You should look into a nice manly sarong.
Or at least something in lighter colors. That looks like it would be extremely hot to wear in the daytime.

Or something like you're wearing in your avatar pic.
Somehow the whole concept of "manly clothes" and Burning Man just seems somehow incongruous to me.

You rang?
I'm vindicated!![]()
At least I have middle age and boring clothes already. And I'm trying real hard on the cool Stuff.
(And it sounds like I'm fishing for compliments, doesn't it? Well, I am!)

I like some funky stuff, so my outfits will be largely practical - maybe even daily-wear clothes - but in the spirit of absurdism, I suppose, I will don some random stuff. Maybe sort of a way to challenge the perceptions of my own identity and explore what my identity could mean.
One thing is for sure, to feel comfortable in my own skin, I will have to feel a certain sense of authenticity about what I am wearing. Having said that, I also feel the need to push myself a bit outside my comfort zone, so the thrifting and costume brainstorm continues!
As a virgin, the outfits are the thing I find most challenging to wrap my head around. It's almost like I feel I owe it to other participants or it is a measure of my own participation. There will be all this interesting stuff to look at and here I am this sterile creature in cargo shorts, no color or flair. I don't want that.
Anyway, enough esoteric rambling as I procrastinate.
Love the thread title, though .. lol.

If a young lady is in good shape and she's pretty, she can just wear slutty clothes showing lots of skin, put something in her hair such as raccoon ears or something, and she's good to go. It's harder for plus sized women, and you'll often see them wearing pedestrian clothes on the playa. Even then is it much easier to find outrageous, colorful/glittery/shimmery/furry clothing in the women's department than men's clothes. A young man in good shape has it much easier than a plus sized man as well. A young man in shape with a nice sun tan can just go without a shirt, wear a painted hardhat or something, and he's stylin'. He will fit in easily and be welcome one of those big art cars. An older, plus sized man wearing the same outfit looks like he's not trying.
