Who needs the white fur trim? I have some on a spool, although it is narrow. I'd have to go look, but an inch or two wide. I have yards of it for a santa suit which didn't happen.

You guys I'm SO EXCITED!! Not only is the bf's kimono coming out really well (I'm considering taking pics of the underarm to show you how well it came out) I found a local costumers guild and they are having a meeting this weekend at a local sewing studio I've been wanting to check out.
The meeting is Steampunk themed but they also say to bring any project you need help with. I still haven't cut the vinyl as I don't want to do the wrong thing with it and I need help making a lining pattern from my robe pattern.

You know we want picks Lazerfox ! I felt the same way when I finally figured out welt pockets on my purple haze coat last year. The sewing guild sounds so fun I need to check them out in my area .

Yes, many years ago though. It works pretty good if you heat the transfer properly.

Just keep in mind that most printers can't print white so avoid white in the design unless printing on a white shirt. IIRC, there are only two printers capable of printing with white ink, but they are rather pricey.

Fishy, I would think you could design it to use the white fabric as the white color and just print the black areas with ink. That's how it's generally done in fabric mills. How complicated is this print?

I want to do one of those images that is black and white only, and I haven't really got to the image itself, I'm just trying to figure out if I want to do this printing or if I want to cut a stencil...

How much white fur trim is needed? I still have the vest portion of the jacket that spawned the cricket shin armor (pictures in the archives of this thread). I'd be willing to ship it if cutting it into strips would be enough fabric.

Thanks, you guys! I need a narrow strip, about 50", to trim the neckline of a dress (It's a wide neckline, and I have broad shoulders). Mostly to disguise the fact that the neckline is crooked and kinda lumpy.

A beautiful Kimono lazerfox!

Yesterday I took a pair of the waterboats out to the beach for a wind test. I'm really not sure it was successful. I'm guessing it was about a 20mph wind and you can see from the photo that they get kind of stuck around the knees and ankles if the wind is too strong. My niece (who helped test) suggested I make a second frame for the bottom of each one (URK more work!) but I'm not sure I want to have a tube like that (plus I really need to finish this and switch to survival prep work). I thought I'd post the images here and get some input from you folks. Frankly I think they look kind of silly and that maybe this idea isn't yet Playa ready. Honest opinions please needed:





They actually make pretty good kites, maybe I should rethink the whole idea?

They do look very interesting, but not so much like boats in the wind.

Perhaps adding some orange, yellow, or red to the top area to simulate a kayak would help. Could even make miniature paddles for the wearer to complete the impression.

Drawingablank, they don't really need to look like boats, they just kind of resemble them (except in these photos). They're mostly meant to seem like water...it's maybe too abstract a concept I don't know...sigh.

AntiM...what does this horsehair braid stuff look like? I don't think I've ever seen it. Would a standard fabric store have it you think?

I'm kind of bummed out that I've spent so much time on these things and they're not really working...and what with all the fearful dust predictions I'm reading...I'm wondering if I should just put it aside for now.

Maybe I just need more coffee?

I was thinking along the same lines but with cheap 1/4 or 3/8 inch poly tubing pulled through a hem. I considered fish tank air tube but that stuff is probably too flexible.

Don't put anything around the bottom that will be knockin the knees when the wind blows.

And I happen to think they are beutiful just the way they are.

All the worries about the dust, and the stress of trying to get these costume things done, AND putting off personal prep to do it, is giving me the WORRIES! I'm going to a burner-bbq costume/crafty gathering tomorrow and will take these along for people to see (and try on). That should help too. Emily. They're done. They're beautiful and fun. Don't over-think this project. I vote for wearing em as they are now. why mess with a good thing. You can't fight the wind no matter how much weight you put on them. Let em flow.
