Halfway locate true north on your compass....walk as far south as you can go....look up the prime meridian on your phone...then stand and wait for a dust storm
Actually, don't even put up a shelter. Just roam into people's camps, preferably naked, and ask for water to rinse your hands with. do it and let all the water fall to the ground. use about 5 gallons. then pee behind their monkey hut.
Please forgive me...this cubicle has stolen portions of my mind and my soul

You want to place your shelter in the location where you wish to be sheltered from the elements. If you wish to be shaded from the hot sun, place the shelter where you anticipate being while you are being shaded by the sun. If you want to be protected from the wind, try to determine where you would place your chairs, camp equipment, etc., and place the shelter directly over that location.

Burning since 2002! Really?
How is it that you have not figured this out yet?

You can always just crash in Center Camp. Millions of hippies do.
Leave your tent at home.
The Alps fill the mind with an agreeable kind of horror.

Okay, is this shelter your tent? Your monkey hut?
Or are you asking where to camp?
Or how to lay your camp out?
Because I'm not sure what question you are asking. Sorry.
