TARP zomg

I thought I had a simple item on my checklist for my flooring-- painter's tarp. But holy moley there's a million kinds of tarp out there with a price range to match. My wife, the artiste with a vision, is hoping for off-white or tan-colored tarp. Does it matter if it's 10-oz. tarp or 14-oz. tarp? Is there a place to get the stuff dirt cheap? I read that some of you found it by calling around for places looking to throw it out-- I don't have that kind of time; need to buy it and check it off the list.

Feel free to insist on better flooring but again, calling around the city / dumpster-diving is not a viable option.

Ebay is a good source for recycled billboard tarps at a reasonable price. I know you said you don't have time to call around, but a couple of calls to local advertising agencies could net you a white backed billboard tarp for free; that will serve your purpose admirably. I'm going to suggest that if you're using it as flooring, heavier is probably better.

we've been using very pretty untreated canvas tarps in our structure for two years now. i get them from mytarp.com -- these are the kind: http://www.mytarp.com/untreated-canvas-covers.aspx

we use them as our shade. don't use the grommets, they tear right out. instead, use the pouch tie-up mechanism -- put something in the corner and tie a knot around that object. if you want to learn more, come to my knot tying workshop, monday afternoon at camp warp zone!

We get those cheap blue tarps from the Army Surplus Store in Hollywood for the floors of our yurts. 20'x20' about $25.00. Then we just throw them out each year. Since we tape them to the yurt inside and out, it's hard to get the tape off without cutting the tarps anyway. They have never ripped with general use, but we do use big throw rugs over them too.
